Question about upgrading fare class.

When I changed my flight I changed my fare class from a T to an M after being checked out of my flight. I re checked in and am in the exact same place one the list. Do i need to call and have my skymiles number removed and reinserted?

Try logging out and back in. If you position doesn't change... then then my guess is you that there are more seats than on the list and you would have gotten the upgrade as a 'T' fare. I always look to see how many FC seats are available before making any kind of change; especially if I'm just looking to get an upgrade.

Got ya' -- but you have to wait until 12 hours before departure --- that's when the list settles down to your actual chances. You'll likely move up the list as an M fare (unless there are allot of Y and B's - which I doubt; depending on your route)... the reason you have to wait until the 12th hour is that is when they clear out the companion upgrades.

Ah okay I gotcha. I was just asking because I wasnt sure if if the list still thinks im on a T fare, since thats what I originally checked in as. And its LAX-JFK by the way.

To confirm what fare they have for you; on a fresh login, click on Itineraries, then look at the cabin/class column... if it still shows "T", call the GM desk asap and point it out to them; however, it should show your "M" fare class if you paid the difference between T and M. LAX-JFK is the most popular route, so your chances are 50/50 at 4 of 5. So, good luck!

Why would the chances of a GM on an M fare depend on companion upgrades?
I thought GM cleared at 48 hrs, then SM at 24, then companion at 12.
Then gate inventory control.
Also AFAIK it was Status, Fare Class, time of ticketing and Delta Reserve for DL list order.

Because they don't discrard the companion UGs until T-12 hrs. Once they are discarded, (because the system sees there are priorities below them), the GM M fare will move up.

I didn't know that. Anyway, even though it shows 4 seats for first, it expertflyer shows all inventory as 0 except for Y4
