Queen Mary 2 Internet Access

Hi,
am considering Cunard Queen Mary 2 transatlantic crossing but need to work onboard and need good strong internet connection. Has anyone taken this ship and used internet? Is it available in cabin? How is quality of connection? How is pricing? Did you try using Skype, comments?

Recently I was on MSC Splendida new ship with great in room internet access and hoping for same here.

Thanks in advance.

Good strength wireless in the cabins, but not terribly fast. The ship also has an internet center and computers in the library.

I get free internet as a repeat passenger perk, but I believe rates started at 75c/min though you could save a lot of money by buying a package. I do know people were using Skype onboard, don't know how well it worked, how much delay.

I think you could get exact information on CruiseCritic -- check the Cunard board.

Just back from a fantastic crossing Southampton to NY.

As of June 2010, internet prices are as follows. Three packages available
8 hours $167.95
4 hours $89.95
2 hours $47.95

Can purchase by the minute = .75 cents/min
Printing = .50 cents per page

The first day's welcome package has a one page info synopsis of the prices/regulation. Be sure to check that for info, particularly on how to properly log out.

Speed was not bad for a ship. Quickest in the mornings when less people are online. Slowest service in the evenings. Speed quicker from the wired computers on deck 3 connexions room and from the few computers in the library.

Enjoy a wonderful time on a great ship.

Skype blocked on ALL Cunard ships

Just back from a crossing on QM2 -- skype has now been blocked from all Cunard ships due to the amount of bandwidth it uses. It was working fine last October when I did my last crossing.

If you were connected to skype before you left shore you may be able to receive calls but i was not able to change my skype voice message or make outgoing skype calls. A great disappointment to me as the only way i can cruise is if i am able to work onboard including making and receiving calls via skype. I'll try to set up igoogle voice which i was told by one of the internet advisors onboard is not blocked. Very sad news for my future cruising prospects.
