visa required?

We are cruising from Lisbon to Venice in April. If we choose not to go ashore in Dubrovnik will we still need a Croatian Visa. (Have a South African Passport) It appears to me that the Cruise Lines dont like you to board without the relevant documentation, even if you are staying on the ship.
We will be in possession of a multiple entry Schengen Visa as we are travelling from Paris to Lisbon and then by ship to Venice. Thanks.

According to the Croatian Embassy in Pretoria's website:

"Visa Requirements for South Africans

South African citizens need a visa to visit Croatia.

For more information contact the Croatian Embassy in Pretoria or visit the web site of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

See more here:

But if you don't get off the ship, you shouldn't need a visa.

That really depends; I was on Med. cruise with Royal Caribbean this summer, and there was a family on board that was missing a person who was denied boarding because she did not have the proper visa for Croatia. They insisted that she fly to Greece and board the ship in Santorini(!).

This is a concern for me as Ive been told that applying for a Croatian Visa in Pretoria is a nightmare and can take way over 3 weeks. My husband travels frequently between Uganda and SA and cannot be without his passport for that length of time. Any suggestions
