$800 a day would not be unusual if you're considering the fare for two people in the stateroom.

It would be considerably higher then I would ever consider, and have ever paid for a cruise, even if you throw in airfare, especially for the Panama Canal. You can easily book a 15 day cruise through the canal this New Years with Airfare from New York for 235 per person per day ($3,500 per person with air) without even searching for a better deal. We usually cruise in the $100 to $150 per person per day range, and with all the deals out there now it's way less then that. Our last three cruises together probably just add up to that amount. $400 per person per day is insane, when there are seven day cruises that are as low as $499 per person.

Maybe I phrased it wrong, it may not be unusual, but it is certainly not necessary. I think unless you are in the captains suite if you pay that much your travel agent took you for a ride, unless it was a mellinium cruise or something.

I've met many people on ships paying ungodly amounts, including people who were in an inside cabin paying three times what we were paying for a balcony, but that doesn't make it right. Their agent did them a favor because it was their honeymoon, she took $100 per person off the brochure rate for them, and they were both so happy about it nobody wanted to bust their bubble.
