I'm going on a cruise next week (for the first time! yes!) so I'm gathering all sorts of information about what to bring, how to pack light etc. There's one thing though... I'm a smoker. I realize that non-smokers hate being around that type of stuff, but I can't really kick my habit just for the cruise. I was kind of looking into that new e-cig (I was googling and found http://www.cigarti.com) thing that I've been seeing but I don't want to waste the money if it's not worth it. Has anyone here tried them or used them while traveling? Even though I'm a smoke I'd like to follow some "smokers etiquette" while traveling TIA!

Not enough info. I believe most if not all cruise line allowing smoking in you personal cabin. There will be dedicated smoking areas on the ship, usually outside and maybe the casino. Check your cruise line website for info on smoking.

Some cruise lines DON'T allow smoking in your own cabin. Varies by company. Some allow smoking on your own balcony, others do not. Be prepared to be given grief by other passengers even when smoking in clearing marked Smoking areas.

No better time to quit than on a vacation when you are away from all the usual cigarette triggers that cause you to light up. Take a vacation from everything.

Check with your local hospital/Lung Assn to see if there are any crash courses you can take before you go. They work. Best time to do it is now. You will be happier in ways you don't even know right now.

Plus one year of cigarettes that you will no longer be smoking, will easily pay for another cruise.

Yeah, I realize you didn't ask for this rant, but I am glad someone kicked me into a higher consciousness years ago even when I was not ready to quit. But the seed was planted, and I am so grateful it finally sprouted. Hope all the salt air and the fresh breezes let your no smoking see sprout too.

You should be able to find sufficient smoking areas so you don't have withdrawal. You could try some nicotine patches, gum, or the e-cigs to blunt cravings if you want to avoid it some on the trip. Check with your doc.

Most cruiselines now ban smoking throughout the ship, except for designated areas (usually in a specific area on the pool deck or similar). Some lines have cigar/smoking rooms. Due to fire hazards, most ban in-cabin or on balcony smoking.

As an-allergic-to-smoke cruiser (40+ cruises) . . . when smoking is allowed in staterooms, the smoke gets into the ventilation system and is circulated throughout the ship. We just sailed on an HAL ship and we had red, irritated eyes for the duration.

Check with your travel agent or search the cruiseline FAQ online for their policy. Enjoy the cruise!

If you have a balcony you can normally smoke on it, but it differs from line to line. Also you can smoke in most casinos.
