I've heard US is pretty hard to redeem with and has less inventory than other partners (like UA) for * alliance redemption, but I'm sure that varies for different routes. I do debate switching to US quite often being based in CLT. At my status with United I get 100% redeemable miles. The equivalent status on US does not get 100%, but rather 75%. My flying right now is actually US credited to United.
