Just got my first PP statement

Here's a few of the highlights for those interested. FYI, mine is the regular level Amex, not Elite (since there is no Elite Amex).

1) The bonus points count as purchase points and pair with flight points. I was surprised to see the flight points transfer since I haven't taken any of the trips yet- I thought they were supposed to post after the travel dates.

2) Award tickets appear to have earned flight points- and more interesting is that award tickets that I cancelled the next day also seem to have earned them- use your imagination here. We'll see if any adjustment is made next month.

3) I had one or two small purchases from TY shopping that did not post, but someone said maybe I should actually expect to see those on my other Citi card since it was my first/primary one. Makes me wonder if you can switch your primary card.

4) A Question- does anyone know what reference Citi uses to calculate the miles flown (and thus the flight points)? I tried to reconcile my earned fight points with the flights I booked and there was a difference.

Here is my points summary:

Flight Points Summary Period ending 02/05/07

Beginning Flight Points 0.00
Flight Points Earned 11226.00
Flight Points Adjusted / Expired 0.00
Flight Points Transferred to ThankYou Account 5848.00
Remaining Flight Points Balance 5378.00

Purchase Points Summary1 Period ending 02/05/07

Purchase Points Earned 848.00
Special / Bonus Points 5000.00
Purchase Points Adjusted 0.00
Total Purchase Points Earned 5848.00
Purchase Points Transferred to ThankYou Account 5848.00

Total Points Transferred to ThankYou Account 11696.00

On Chairman statement when an airline ticket is purchased the transaction is reported with these details:

DELTA NNNNNNNNNNNN ATLANTA GA
NAME: XXX/XXXXXXX
DEPART: 10/XX/06
MIA TO ATL : DL: CLASS: F : STOP:
ATL TO AVL : DL: CLASS: F : STOP: X
AVL TO ATL : DL: CLASS: F : STOP: O
ATL TO MIA : DL: CLASS: F : STOP: X

The reported DEPART date determines when Flight Points are "earned", and this date is not always accurate.

When the Flight Points post this information appears in Statement Messages:

TICKET STATEMENT TRAVEL ORIGIN/ POINTS
NUMBER DATE DATE DEST. EARNED
NNNNNNNNNNN 10/10/2006 10/XX/2006 MIA ATL 595
NNNNNNNNNNN 10/10/2006 10/XX/2006 ATL AVL 163
NNNNNNNNNNN 10/10/2006 10/XX/2006 AVL ATL 163
NNNNNNNNNNN 10/10/2006 10/XX/2006 ATL MIA 595

This allows you to see the distance Citi has assigned to each segment. Do you not see these details?

I do not believe Citi's software can distinguish an award fee transaction from a revenue flight. I do not think this is important because Flight Points are merely a promotional tool, the more Flight Points you "earn" the more money you need to spend on the card to redeem them.

<<small purchases from TY shopping that did not post, but someone said maybe I should actually expect to see those on my other Citi card >>

Website says: Points earned for purchases will post to your ThankYou Member Account. I take this to mean the Merchant Points will be added directly to your Thank You Network balance, will not appear on any credit card statement, and will not match Flight Points. Others disagree.

I don't see any of that when I look at my statement online- just the first line with the processing city and the transaction number. Maybe the paper statement will show it. I'll check the next statement as well to see if there's more info about them after the flights are taken.

Regarding the TY shopping- I've never seen points post directly to my TY account- the only transactions on my account are from Citibank or Citicards.

First, this really should have gone in the main PP thread. It's much easier to access information when it's aggregated. Second, the points you note in #1 and #2 are well known here.

Points take 2-3 months to post. So you won't see them for a while (regardless of exactly where they're going to post). As has been discussed here several times, you can't change your primary card.

I haven't had paper statements for a while, but when I did, the detailed flight point info would only appear on the paper statement, not the online statement.

Thanks for the info. I know a lot of it has been discussed in the past, but there have been a number of questions in various threads recently and I just wanted to put my info out there so people could get all the answers in one place.

Which is the "main PP thread"? I have a quick Q about PPE and did a search but found several candidates. Thanks.

well, we all remember that Merrill Plus used to give Ritz Carlton certs at tier 3 spend.

They don't anymore.

If it's a really good deal, then it won't last idefinately.

Remember, they are not in business to give us really good deals.

So we have TY apologists who say , there has been no devaluation ,that TY is the greatest and that TY is the best thing snice sliced bread.

I have to call a 50% reduction in shopping portal points earnings a major devaluation!

If it was never a feature of the program, and just a little bit of confusion, is it really a devaluation?

Personally, I spend less that $100 a month on TY shopping. I'm not too worried about getting 10 instead of 5 points for that- I'm more curious than anything.

Hey, don't let facts get in the way of someone's ill-informed rant.

Got the paper statement today. There is a separate section where each segment is broken down and the miles are broken out.

The flight points for each segment seem to reflect 4-5 miles less travel than United's indicated miles travelled. Not a big deal in the long run, but interesting, since by their calculations my ORD-LAX-OGG itinerary would end up 10 miles off the coast of Maui in the Pacific Ocean.

...and you're implying that in reality, it didn't... right?
