I have had very good luck with the GM card. I have the type that limits the earnings to $500.00 per year up to seven years. I have three kids of which I have bought two their first car. These are the cheaper models. I bought one daughter a Pontiac Sunfire and just bought the other daughter a Chevy Cobalt.
The deal on the Cobalt was really good. I had about $1,950 earnings on the GM card. I received a mailer saying they would add another thousand instantly to my earnings if I bought by March 31, 2005. The regular rebate on the car was $1,000 and the dealer knocked off $1100. The nearly three thousand in GM earnings and the dealer and manufacturer rebates brought the price under $10,000 for a new car. Taxes and other fees brought it back up slightly over ten thousand but it was cheaper than many used cars. And my daughter loved the car. She picked the color.
The previous daughter had a similiar deal but the extra earnings were only $250 back in 2001 when I bought that car. I think I had a little over two thousand off that car.
I wish there had been no cap to how much you can save in a year but it was still one of the best deals I ever found in a master card.

It's issued by Household Bank (HSBC) which is one of the few banks that still charges only a 1% foreign exchange fee. Most of the major card issuers assess a 3% fee for all purchases made in another currency, so you can save a considerable amount by using the GM card when you go out of the country.
