I know nothing about the student card, but I do like MBNA for travel outside the U.S. They do not add the usual 2% rip off charge to foreign currency conversion that other banks try to get away with charging.
I use only MBNA cards for foreign travel. Info on several can be found in the Credit Card section of my website, Free Frequent Flyer Miles. Perhaps some of the miles producing ones would be even better than the student card.

Does MBNA have a general student card? I know they have cards for specific universities. Also keep in mind on the MBNA applications it says if you are approved at less than a $2,000 credit line you will receive a 'Preferred' card.
