Need expert FT advice..
I need to apply for a v/mc as I am going to make a $18,000 puchase. I will not carry a balance so int % is not a factor. I know a few offers out there such as United 15K bonus.. but there is a $60 annual fee which I do not want to pay. Can some experts or others give me any thoughts or advice as to the best options aval to me? Thanks in advance..

What are you buying for $18,000? (if its a car you may encounter some trouble) Are you sure you can get a card with that much credit available?
I'd definitely go for a Starwood Amex but I know that Amex may not be an option for you and there is a annual fee.
The only Visa / MC cards that don't charge an annual fee pay miles at 1 for every $2 so they're unattractive for your purchase.
I don't think your question has an obvious or easy answer. Pick what ever airline you want the miles in and go for that one.
PS - you can still get the 20,000 UA sign up miles if you want.

The Starwood Amex card has the first year free with 4,000 miles on first purchase. Also, if you do a search, there had been a UA VISA card with first year free which gave 15,000 miles on first purchase. You can find details of most of the credit card offers in MilesBuzz.
One issue you need to look at is the credit limit and the maximum number of miles/ points that can be awarded each month.
