First USA Foreign Currency Charge
Got my renewal Mileage Plus credit card from FirstUSA and the enclosure said they would charge a 2% fee on top of VISA/MC 1% fee on charges in currencies other than US dollars. Many will recall when FirstUSA suggested a simliar fee last year, to many howls from overseas travellers. They did not impose the fee at that time but other CCs (like Amex)have.
I called and it's good news on this one. The enclosure they sent me was dated 8/99 and is not current policy. While FirstUSA does charge this fee on some cards, they do not charge it on any Mileage Plus linked cards whether VISA or MC.
FirstUSA should be praised for keeping their word on this matter and I intend to continue to use them for the bulk of my CC needs.
