NextCard Visa

I finally went to this site after seeing SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many ads on Yahoo, etc.

I says that if you carry and transfer a balance, you get 2 MyPoints per dollar. That figures out to $10000 in charges for a free ticket on American or Delta through a VacationMiles transfer. Or, $12500 in charges for 25000 miles on Delta, American, or Continental.

Is this too good to be true????

IMO - with mypoints *anything* is too good to be true. As soon as I get the points posted they owe me from 2 months ago, get the miles from Vacation Miles, AND get the Vacation Miles posted to my AA account that I cashed in in **October** -- I am removing any remnant of mypoints from my computer. Never did business with a company like them before and don't intend to again.

How much in interest charges will they charge for the $10,000 charges with a balance on the card?

Caution: Nextcard may be using a double billing cycle to calculate interest.

Or can you simply pay it off promptly on the 1st or 2nd cycle?

My understanding is that if you carry a balance, then finance charges start accruing from the date of the purchase (i.e. there is no grace period).

I went to their site because I was interested in DOUBLE points. I re-read it a few times and believe that the following is "the rules".

When you apply you must make a "transfer balance" to "join" the 2x points "club".

If you are a "member" of the 2x club, in the month that you "cary a balance" (i.e. pay interest) then the purchases made that month get 2x points. As noted above, if you carry a balance then no grace period.

However, with correct timing, (purchase late in billing cycle and pay all be a small amount inmediate after billing cycle, it may work very well. With the lower Intro % it could work out to a good deal. I am investigating into this some more.

Sounds like a scam to me...I'd run away from it.

Yep, IMHO with mypoints involved you have a better chance of seeing God than ever seeing those points. You'll rack up the balance, pay a finance charge (however little you manage it) and never get the points from them.

I have to agree with keithnj973 on MyPoints. Never, never, never miss an opportunity to bash them! Their customer service, if you can call it that, is pathetic. I have 700 points they owe me since October. E-mails didn't work so I went to phone calls. Have phoned them at least 3 times since late November and was promised the points. Even got a follow-up e-mail on one of the due postings. Still nothing. I want to get the points, cash them in, and be done with MyPoints forever!
