Rove Card (aka Rove Miles)
surprised no thread on this phantom card, turned OTA + shopping portal. but im looking for DPs of user experience. any feedback, issues etc?
https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/rove https://viewfromthewing.com/rove-card-travel-rewards https://viewfromthewing.com/vc-backe...k-140-airlines https://www.doctorofcredit.com/rove-...nsfer-partners https://dannydealguru.com/rove-miles-loyalty-program need to look deeper into their inventory and dynamic pricing backend. also not sure if they will bust out credit card anytime soon. maybe later. so im not sure of their partner bank. maybe its WF? or evolve bank? that would be too funny. but pretty sure non-compete in play. few interesting things from their T&Cs: https://www.rovemiles.com/program-terms 2.4 Negative Miles Balance If, for any reason, your account reflects a negative Miles balance, Rove reserves the right to bill you for the value of the negative balance at a rate of $0.02 per Mile. In addition, where permitted by applicable law, Rove may also charge interest on the outstanding negative balance at a rate of two percent (2%) per annum, or the maximum rate allowed by law, whichever is lower. You agree to pay any invoiced amount within the time period stated on the invoice. 3.2 Dynamic Pricing Rove Miles utilizes dynamic pricing, which means the required Miles for flights, hotels, or other services may change at any time, based on various factors (e.g., demand, partner availability). Rove does not guarantee a fixed redemption or monetary value for Rove Miles, and reserves the right to adjust redemption rates without prior notice. 3.4 Chargebacks As Rove is not an airline or hotel operator, no chargebacks are permitted for travel services booked through Rove. All refunds for dissatisfaction or service issues are at the discretion of the relevant airline or hotel. If a refund is granted after Miles have already been credited and spent, those Miles will be deducted from the refund at a rate of $0.02 per Mile. If the Miles remain unused, they will simply be removed from your account. 4.1 No Expiration Rove Miles do not currently expire based on account inactivity. You may maintain your Miles indefinitely, provided your account remains in good standing and you comply with these Rewards Terms. 8.4 Limitation of Liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rove’s total liability for all claims related to the Rewards Program shall not exceed the total fees you have actually paid to Rove in the six (6) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim or $100, whichever is greater. Rove shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. |
I'm also interested in seeing if flights purchased directly on their site will code as airfare or not. I don't really believe in their mission, but I'm happy to see if I can leverage their VC backing to get outsized returns as a user.

So far Rove has been growing super rapidly - obviously you guys aren't the only ones to see the value in the program.
Basically we're passing along the commission that we get from hotels straight to the users rather than capping it like other travel portals do. We're going to be working on economies of scale to turn a profit and so far so good. While there were originally plans to launch a credit card, we realized it made more sense to be card-agnostic. This has meant we've been able to avoid exclusivity issues you'll see with hotels/airlines and their co-branded partners. Basically it keeps the doors open for all kinds of transfer partners. At this point, all purchases made on Rove code as lodging, even flights. And while hotels aren't *currently* eligible to receive benefits from elite status, you can obviously still get your airline perks. We also have online shopping with excellent returns, including 3.2x on Visa and Mastercard gift cards (our most recent promo jumped this to 4x but has since expired). |

I haven't booked any yet through your site yet, however - the issue is resort fees (where applicable) aren't specifically shown on the checkout/pricing pages. Based on looking at prices alone, sometimes it looks like you're including the resort fees in the "pay now" price, and other times it looks like the resort fee is not included (but also not disclosed, which I'm not sure is even legal these days). Two examples I was looking at were the Hotel Figueroa (which has a resort fee, and seemed like it was not included in your pricing, but also not disclosed that it would be due on property), and the Rio Las Vegas (which also has a resort fee, and IIRC seemed like it was included in your pay now price, but again not disclosed either way). This matters a lot for people with e.g. Globalist status, who are exempt from resort fees, and who obviously don't want to prepay them. My preference - never include resort fees in the prepay amount (have them paid on property), and always disclose the predicted amount to be paid at property, breaking these fees out specifically. Chase is also bad at this recently (some of the Edit bookings are somewhat ambiguous in this regard, and prepaying resort fees often leads to confusion when on-property when they charge you again for them). But Amex seems to be pretty good at it - I haven't seen a case yet where it was ambiguous on their site. Anyway, love the progress you've made, and I'm hoping you might be able to make some changes to clarify this stuff on the site! |
It is a neat concept, however be careful.
I purchased back in July a bunch of stuff and points were always pending. On their site was told points will be credited within 30-60 days and now 60 days has past and not credited. I reach out to support and they said it could take another 4-8 weeks for them to investigate. So they are promising miles but they are stuck in pending status and I have not been able to redeem them. Has anyone here received and were able to book with their miles? |

Interesting program I may try out. I was just looking over in the FlyerTalk spam thread to see if anyone had any referral links to the Rove program but maybe they don't have one yet. My main concern is bonus points and loyalty elite night credits showing up with a program such as Marriott. It looks like it will though. Unfortunately, it seems i've missed out on the 10,000 point offers they were doing in July and October.

I tried to use it once. I got nothing. I asked about it and they gave me a customer service gesture of 2,500 Rove Miles. I have not used them again. I'm just going to stick with AA shopping and Rakuten.
Supposedly the issue was I had put things in the cart one day, but didn't buy it. I came back the next day and some new items were in stock and I added it and made the purchase. But because I had items in the cart, it did not count. The whole time the Rove extension on Chrome was active, and every time I went to the site to browse it, the extension popped up to say the 6x bonus was active. So I didn't think I'd need to empty out the cart and put them all back in when it was already telling me it was active. It's too much of a hassle so I stopped using them. TLDR: They are picky or user error, and I stopped using them after 1 attempt. |
Hey Rove... Are purchases still coding as hotels for the 4x on CSR? That's what AwardWallet seems to think but nobody else says it.

Rove partners with global loyalty programs across all three airline alliances. Currently, these are Aeromexico Rewards, ALL-Accor Live Limitless, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Etihad Guest, Finnair Plus, Flying Blue (Air France & KLM), Hainan Airlines Fortune Wings Club, Air India Maharaja Club, Miles & More, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, and Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles. All transfer partners are at a 1:1 ratio except ALL-Accor Live Limitless, which is at 1.5:1. |
Update: They just manually refunded my transaction after a week. But the overall experience left a very sour taste, not too sure I would attempt to book with them again.
-- I'd be wary to use them right now. I placed a fully refundable booking last week and I have been unable to cancel it on their website. Their chat support has been offline (I have never seen it online). And they their email support inbox is also unresponsive. I just hope it doesn't come down to a chargeback. |
Any new experiences?
