Need a New Visa or MC

Greetings:

I have a Citi Hilton Visa Reserve card. As we know, they are switching to AMEX. Problem is I already have an AMEX Personal Platinum, AMEX Starwood, and soon to have an AMEX Hilton.

So now I have no Visa/MC; I need one because not everyone takes AMEX.

I do much less travel than in the past. I primarily fly Delta and stay at Hiltons or Starwood hotels. So a focus on another travel partner is too dilutive.

Any suggestions?

TIA.

Head over to our Chase UR forum and take a look at their lineup of cards. The Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Preferred (CSR and CSP) earn UR points and can be transferred to numerous hotels & airlines. Or you can use them to buy flights & book hotels rooms through their website.

Also look at our CITI Thank You forum for more ideas.

I'd look at a good Cashback card. The Citi DoubleCash card is my primary Mastercard. Amex is my primary points earning system and currently I have enough points for the trip I intend to take next year so if I'm making a purchase that would only earn me 1 MR I use the Citi DoubleCash card. I like the combo of points & cash back to give me options in earnings. Citi also has good purchase protection including the 90 day return policy which has saved me a bunch over the past two years.

While I am pretty much certain that AMEX is not your primary bank, have you thought about the bank/CU you use the most?

Given that your purpose is not about points for this card, your bank/CU may have some good products for you.

It isn't known who the card issuer(s) will be for the new program, but in the interim a Chase Marriott VISA, or a Chase Ultimate Rewards VISA, could earn a new account bonus bonus that would end up in that program (or could be transferred from Marriott to Starwood sooner, with a 3:1 downrate conversion).
