Though the comment there about Chinese POS's not accepting the card puzzles me...

My comment? I was referring to declines of using a Discover in Mainland China. The UnionPay card should work without issues.
I meant this comment on DoC: Unipay actually has two types of channels. One is for the cards in China and the other is for the cards in Hongkong, Eurpoe and U.S. Most of the POS machines in China ONLY accept the first type of Unipay credit card! |

I don't think I've ever heard that before.

Looks like some sites are reporting uber china app is now required for uber use in china. Only accepts Unionpay, alipay, etc. Wonder if this should work.

I received my card today! Exciting times! :)

I was approved with an $8,000 limit too. Lucky numbers I guess. :D
I just received the card today. I had to call to activate since the online form was having some difficulties taking my information. I then proceeded to try to register an online account, but I never received the verification code. I remember reading an earlier post stating that you needed an active checking account to access online banking for the credit card. If you visit the Enrollment page it will allow you to enter the credit card number. Once you provide your details, it will ask you to send a verification e-mail or text. I couldn't do the text as there was no mobile number associated with the account. The e-mail comes up, but I never get the verification code. I called customer service, and someone from the online banking team will get back to me on Monday. |
I was approved with a $8,000 limit as well. I have the card and I did register for online banking so it does work. The verification code took a while for it to reach my email, so I had to be patient but it did work and I was able to sign up for online banking and paperless statements. I don't have a checking account with them either nor do I want/need one. I need to find a place in the UK that takes Union Pay and see if the chip works.

Thanks for confirming. It's been about 8 hours, and still I don't have a verification e-mail. Did you go through the registration process again or just leave the verification code window open in your web browser? My concern is if it takes forever to generate the code and I repeat the process, the code might change. :) I'll wait it out. I believe their tech support is all in Mainland China and off for the weekend, so I'll call back during normal business times in the US. Online banking is huge for this one because there is not an automated line when you call the card's customer service number. Employees are friendly, and I now know what they're asking for in the information, but I would prefer seeing all of the information online and receiving paperless statements too. |

The online banking system looks like it's from 2000, but you can see all your transactions, register for online statements, make payments, etc. so it does what it needs to. :) |

I actually had to repeat it a few times because I made the mistake of not waiting long enough for the code to come and I ended up using a code that I invalidated by requesting a new one. It took about 3-5 minutes for each code to generate. So, if you tried it again I don't think it'd be an issue.

He understood the situation, but he was unable to do anything about the online banking account. He did offer to have someone call me back on Monday during standard North American business hours. My Mandarin is not at the level where I could conduct banking transactions successfully, but my native Mandarin speaking spouse has delegated me for all customer service calls. She says, "I don't care what you do with the miles and points, but leave me out of it!" She doesn't mind being the beneficiary, however! :D I'll try again this morning while I get ready for the day. If it's not up and running I saw under the FAQ that I can enroll in any branch, so I will make the trek up to San Mateo this morning if I can't get it working. |

On that note, there are a few UnionPay offers on this site that might be useful to some. (The link goes to the US offers page but they seem to have offers in most other countries as well.)
