Sometimes it is disconcerting when a cashier just makes up his/her own rules. At a Sears store recently, a cashier wouldn't sell me GCs paid with CC. She said only DC or cash. Having done it previously, I didn't argue with her. Instead, I went to the second floor and two very helpful and friendly cashiers let me do it.

Dredging up this old thread to ask a Discover cashback question. In short...I don't get how it's calculated. Does the "Rewards" section of the statement not necessarily coincide with the charges on that statement?
My last two statements raise a few questions (I've pretty much only used this card for the current bonus category, which is restaurant spending up to $1500 for April-June). Neither statement shows any cashback earned except the "5% Cashback Bonus" category. The April statement looks OK; however, the May statement shows cashback in an amount only a little less than 10% of the statement charges (not 5% as I would expect). Perhaps that includes cashback earned on charges made after the statement closing date? But in any event, the total of 5% cashback bonus from the two months together is over $75 (which in my understanding is the maximum 5% bonus one can earn on the rotating categories, per quarter).
So what am I missing here?

Discover double cash back
A pleasant surprise today, was seeing the double cash back bonus on my Discover statement, from that offer they had last year.
Neat.

Is it true one can just close and reopen the card and get the double cash back again, even though the official offer says "exclusively for new cardmembers"?

yup! You call yto close acct and wait a month or 2. Then reapply and Ive done it 3x over the past 4 years. You can only have 2 Disc cards at a time. So make sure you only have 1or zero cards before reapplying. And for me they do not care what you buy (VGC).
