how small can the magnetic swipe/card be?

my AAA card came with a miniature version, keyring size with magnetic bar... not sure if that magnetic portion is readable...

Back in the day, boa had keychain credit cards I think. I wish those would come back, I want a keychain card.

How can it be ugly if it has jelly beans on it?:D

@percysmith - The Jelly Bean background is a bit much. Otherwise OK card.

Exactly what I do. Worked like a charm until I was in some outlet store, and mrs snic makes me stand in line with an armful of crap while she goes looking for... more crap. Of course this is the one time that the cashier insists on verifying the signature (which I can't really imitate), so I have to call her and wait for her to show up, while the line behind me grows increasingly restless.

I get that people are upset since their normal expectation is to not have to have the signature verified. It takes time and can sometimes cause situations like the above.

But really, can you blame a person who actually does it? Technically, they're supposed to be verifying the signature. That's what it's there for. Yeah, the vast majority of situations, they don't do it. But those few times that they do verify, it's to try to reduce fraud.

Here's a comparison. A lot of people don't wear seat belts when driving because they either find it uncomfortable or too much of a hassle to put on. Let's just imagine that the vast majority of people don't put them on. But they're there for a reason. The laws say you have to wear them for a reason. It's trying to protect the lives of people, similar to how signature verification is trying to protect against fraud.

Yes, we now have better ways to prevent fraud (PIN instead of signature), but that's at least where the law of signatures came from. The law is just slow to catch up with technological developments.

Of course not. My quibble is more with mrs snic, who is far too important a person to stand in a check out line herself! :p

Shame on you! Didn't you learn anything in school? In grade 7 I had a teacher who spent a whole week teaching us the history and trade of forgery. Seriously. Everything from simple hand-tracing on onionskin to x-acto knives. I hate to admit it, but it's been amazingly useful in my current job (fraud investigation / forensic accounting). It's also been useful for traveling, but I'll leave that to your imagination.

Similarly, my girlfriend does a passable version of my signature which works out well when she uses my credit cards.
