In my area, Cap 1 pulls from all 3 CBs, so I would never apply for their cards. Again in my area, Chase pulls from 2 CBs, and I usually want one of two of their cards, so I do them first. Then I decide on the rest based on which CB they use. To me, Cap1 is a waste because of the 3 pulls. I could have 1 chase and 1 Barclays for the same #. Do you know which CB each bank pulls from?

The sole reason for me applying for 2 Cap1 cards at once is due to the fact that they pull 3 CBs. Unfortunately, because I'm in NY most banks here pull EXP, with the exception of Barclays which usually pulls TU

Card advice for August?

I have been very busy with life and work and have unwittingly taken an 18 month hiatus from churning and need to get back into the game. I have a pretty high spend coming up and am loathe to waste it without making use of a sign on bonus. Also - my Barclays US was apparently switched to an aviator red that I haven't activated yet. Should I?

Goals are pretty broad - prefer transferable points, airlines>hotels.

open cards:
SPG biz
Chase sapphire
Chase ink biz
Chase plus biz
AA MC
Amex hilton

closed wi past 24 mos:
AA citi Exec x2
Barclay arrival
Chase UA biz

previously had many, but the ones that are not churnable to my (outdated) knowledge:
SPG personal
AE PRG
AE Plat
Chase UA
Chase BA
Chase United

It seems that you are planning an AOR.

On that basis, I believe you should find what you want first.

Most of the closed accounts you mentioned are churnable again depending on your situation. But please be aware that:

a. AMEX imposes a lifetime per product

b. Chase tighten UR cards opening.

So you really have to work out a plan and check if you are affected.

Do you receive the annual 10k bonus miles on this card? Barclays has been more generous of late on waiving the annual fee-

Best new credit cards for miles to travel around the world?

I'm hoping to travel around the world slowly with my family. Looking to purchase one way segments rather than a RTW ticket so we can be super flexible.

We have a bunch of cards/miles already- Sapphire, Ink, Southwest (companion pass), Arrival+, American, Alaska, Delta, United, etc. (plus some hotel ones but not interested in building reserves in that because we'll likely be doing longer term vacation rentals/homestays) Our biggest chunk of miles are UR + AA.

Curious what people would recommend re: new cards to get that can be used for this trip. We will travel in coach to maximize our miles. Our rough itinerary is Central - South America- NZ/Aust - SEA - India/Nepal - Europe - back home to North America.

Ideas? We have a lot of home renovation spending coming up ($20-30K that can go on cards), so high minimum spend isn't an issue. But also looking for good bonuses (rather than from ongoing spend/MS)

Was thinking about getting into the world of AmEx membership rewards. Also curious about the Virgin Atlantic offer but hear those are super hard to redeem. Or maybe Citibank Thank You points (prestige or premier)

Thanks for advice!

The Amex Gold Premier Rewards card might be a good fit.
-Transfer points to miles in all 3 alliances and a few more.
-3x points for purchasing directly with the airline
-100$ airline fee refund
-50,000 point signup bonus for 1000$ spending in 3 months (current promotion)
-No fee for 1 year. 195$ thereafter which is 100$ more than the Entry Amex Charge card and is also the amount of the airline fee refund so to me that is a breakeven.
-Potential downsides is that it is a charge card so no true flexibility in payment and some limited use. Not everyone accepts.. but you have plenty of other cards for those times already.

Amex Everyday/Blue cards come with other kinds of bonuses (10,000 point or cash) and are credit cards with 0% for 12-18 months.

I wouldn't open for Amex Plat for anything less than 75k, ideally 100k.

Did your Citi AA convert to World Elite? Might be eligible to apply again (plus it's 18mo normally, not 24 so not sure where you fall in that)

Might look into US Bank Flexpoints > Propel

Amex Platinum - Approved for 100k
Capital One Spark Business $500 - Approved instantly
Citi Business AA - Approved for 20k limit after a call
BAC Alaska Air Personal -Approved
BAC Business (+bus checking to get 1k bonus)- Approved
WF Propel - Did not apply as the website said non-account holders apply in branch
Chase United Business - Denied for too many credit inquiries
Mariott - Denied for too many credit inquiries
Barclay Lufthansa - Approved for 16k

So in total I get $1500 in cashback + 250,000 miles for a spend of $17.5k in three months + $279 in fees. Not bad.

Bank of America approved two cards with 16k each. Citi gave 20k on its card and Barclay gave 16k as well.Amex was approved instantly. All but Citi approved instantly

Chase on the other hand who I have my checking, savings and a mortgage with denied both cards. I have three already open cards with them with a measly total credit limit of 4k among all of them. Still they didn't approve even the personal Mariott card.

Beware of Chase`s much stricter approval requirements.

had a disappointing round of apps for an acc I help out with :/

- Barclays Miles & More - instantly approved
- Chase British Airways - instantly approved
- Amex SPG Biz - instant approved
- Citi AT&T - instant denial. This one hurt the most! Called in and the rep said app is deined. She doesn't have know the reason but it will be mailed out to me.
- BoA Alaska - pending
- Barclays Arrivals - pending and denied during recon. Said app/history was very strong but they need to see more history on the Miles & More before openig a new line of credit

- anything I can do about the Citi app?
- anyone have a good recon number for BoA?

Thanks,

It does seem that the heady days of unlimited approvals are over. We had our first ever denial (on a Chase card) a couple of months ago. Now we have a couple of pendings to wade through.

I did a 6 app AOR yesterday for Mr SD.

Approvals--
Amex Biz Gold 75K
Citi Plat AA
Lufthansa 50K

Pending:
BoA Alaska
Air Canada Aeroplan (TD bank)

Denied:
AA biz

Went ahead and applied for few more. Here is the total tally for today

Amex Platinum - 100k MR points - Auto approved
Citi Business AA - 50k miles - Approved without much trouble on recon line
BAC Alaska Air Personal - 25k - Auto approved
Capital One Spark Business - $500 - Auto approved
Barclay Lufthansa - 50k miles - Auto approved
BAC Alaska Air Business(+ bus checking in branch) - 25k miles + $1000 - Approved in branch
BankAmericard Travel Rewards - 20k points - Auto approved
Capital One Venutre - 40k miles - Auto approved
Chase Mariott -80k - Declined
Chase Bus United - 50k - Declined

So in total out of 10 apps 8 were approved. Need to spend 19,500$ in 3 months. Will get $1500 cashback + 310k miles/points for it
