Lifehacker article on CC churning

Well, here's a new article on the pros/cons of CC churning.

http://lifehacker.com/is-it-a-good-i...1563052862/all

My favorite part of this is the very first comment, where the poster is drooling over the $20 signup bonus for the Amazon credit card.

Among credit card reward enthusiasts, the strategy of applying for numerous cards in order to earn multiple sign-up bonuses is called credit card churning.
Surprising error, inasmuch as the author is an active Flyertalk member. Churning is the practice of applying for a credit card, earning the new account bonus, cancelling (usually), and reapplying for the same card. There is no churn until the second application for the same card.

Applying for several cards simultaneously is an App-O-Rama (AOR).

Is it really surprising? Just because someone is a Flyertalk member doesn't mean they have taken in a whole lot, sorry to say. (And the article is a prefect example)

I like how the writer doesn't know the difference between churning and AOR. Great article, 5*.

That guy is a frequent guest writer at TPG. Have seen him write quite a few articles on MS topics.

Great article.

Would not read again.

But the comment section is good for some laughs.

Come on. That statement is technically correct (it could refer to numerous US Air cards), even though it's not the best definition. At least they didn't say "churning gift cards." lol

If you aren't exceedingly nitpicky (to put it nicely) on the terminology, it's a fairly good overview of the concepts of what we do here.

.... now this is going more mainstream? I think we should all go post in the comments in that lifehacker post about how "bad" churning/AoR, and recommend people NOT to do it!!!

Why? Newbies that are introduced to this hobby with a broad mainstream article like this are the ones most likely to be profitable from a card issuer perspective. These are the exact type of people who are paying for your profitable hobby.

I've obviously got a biased view, but bring on the newbies!

The more people churning and playing our game, the smaller the spoils of war will be. Look at how deals go downhill when it becomes publicized
