On your SPG, you're trying to meet the spend (I assume for 25K offer). when you spend $5K, you get 25K bonus starpoints, on top of the 5K you'll have earned. That means, until you meet that spend, you're essentially earning 6 points per dollar.
IF there is any debate in your mind that your ability to hit that spend requirement is in jeopardy, then put everything on the SPG. If you'll have no problem meeting the spend, then put it on the United for 2x.
tl;dr version:
Will you be able to hit the spend without the purchase? If no, then charge the SPG. If yes, then:
Will you earn 2x+ by putting it on a different card? If no, then charge the SPG. If yes, then charge whatever card gets 2x+

use explorer card with award ticket?
I am about 1500 short on spend with spg and I should meet it in a months time - I am within my 6 months which started end of last nov. would my wife have a better chance of an upgrade if I use the explorer for those taxes ? It's couple flights from amm to iah . Also if I don't use the card is she able to get any of the benefits of the explorer card or do I have to use the card for the taxes to get them?
Thanks !
Thanks !
