Average Age of Accounts
I just completed my first credit card churn and was 8 for 8 with the CSP and Ritz, 2 Citi AA cards, Hawaiin x2, US Airways, and AMEX Hilton. The amazing thing about it was that AMEX reported to all 3 credit agencies that the account has been open since 2000 which really helps my average age of accounts. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? And are they likely to correct the info? It was interesting that my credit score only dropped byt 15 points total a few days after the applications.

Were you maybe an authorized user on an Amex account opened in 2000? That happened to me and when I got my first Amex it shows I'm a member since 1994 even though I had never actually used the card that I was an AU on.

That's just the effect of the inquiries. If you have a thin file, the bigger effect is likely to occur once all those new tradelines actually report as open accounts, not just inquiries.

Had the same thing happen with a parent's BOA card in 1992. Been reporting since 1992 until this summer when the card was reported lost/stolen. That was some good stuff.

I just added my kids as authorized users in November. In prior years it always gave them the earlier date that I opened the account. This time it is showing them all with a start date in November which dropped their account age significantly.
I was surprised by this. Googling it appears Amex changed their policy I believe at the end of last year and now report the date the AU was added. So now I am surprised again to hear that other people are still getting the earlier dates.
I added some of my kids to several accounts so now their avg life is under a year! In the past Amex always helped, so I thought this would have benefited them. At least that is how it is showing on CreditKarma.

Its just the opposite for me. I am an authorized user since 2000. In 2011, I opened an account in my name and few more in 2012. These did not show MS 2000 at all and the ones in 2012 did not honor my own card opened in 2011. I called to correct the situation and was told basically no. Interesting fact is that on my online account by adding the authorized card, the system shows the Member since 2000. What is the policy of Amex.
