5 apps, 5 approvals

Just did 5 apps for my husband. Got 5 approvals; 2 required reconsideration

Citi Hilton 50k x 2 (2 browser trick) yielded 2 instant approvals. The only weird thing was the "congratulations" wording on the Firefox version said MY first name and not his. I know I used his SSN and name, so I'm pretty sure we're okay, but I'm somewhat concerned and confused by this.

Chase United 50K - his 4th Chase card (Sapphire, SW, Priority Club) required an easy call to reconsideration.

Amex Hilton 40k - instant approval

Barclay US Airways (2nd card, got first in Dec 2011). Required reconsideration call to find out why we wanted a second card. CSR also wondered why the first card isn't used much. Gave a good enough reason for both and got the approval.

Net:
50K United
140K Hilton
40K US Airways

All in all, a pretty good start to my Saturday

Good you scored 5/5 in small App-o-Rama. Keep us updated when the Bank does the Closure-o-Rama.

I said that my son is beginning to make many online purchases for a hobby and that we want to keep the purchases all on one card so we can track them. It is a convenient story and also is true

Say what? Considering your vast experience in this area that your total of 6 posts would indicate, and this brilliant post in particular, I'd suggest you might take an oft-quoted Abe Lincoln adage to heart.

Do you have these cards in your name too? If not why not, doubles the points! We always do Apps seperately in our own names, my wife does not work, we use family income with her listed retired, never denied so far ( have had to call CSR a couple times for reconsideration) Her credit score score is 770+

Great point! I'll be doing the some round of applications for myself in a few days.

For whatever reason, I developed the habit of doing applications for my husband and me on different days.

I'm in the same boat as your wife. Credit 780+, don't work outside the home anymore, etc, but I have not been denied any credit. In the last year, the two of us have earned nearly 1.5 million in various airline and hotel points through credit card bonus and spend.

Yay for good credit.

Great work! That was a great catch!
If you don't mind my asking, do you generally put a little spending a few times a year on the cards you get, even after the mandatory spend?

Interesting you should ask, as the Barclay's CSR noted that my husband's first US Airways card had not been used often. I do a good job on my own accounts of putting a little random this-or-that on all my cards once a month, but that's too much to ask of my husband. He already has a cheat sheet taped to the dash board of his car to remind him what card to use for each type of expense!

I decided that I will put some low dollar recurring charge on his cards automatically so that there is always some activity on them.

Anita

PS - I impulsively added an application for the BofA Alaska Airlines card for him today. He got an instant approval for that as well.

I did a mini-app-o-rama 3 weeks ago but was denied for the US Air card (I have one already that's still open). I am debating calling in for reconsideration because I saw other people have had an issue where Barclay's pulls the other two CB's during reconsideration and then ultimately denies them anyway. Thoughts?

I read the stuff about pulling the other credit bureaus during reconsideration. I was thinking that if I got a denial, I would call and ask them directly what they'd do if I asked for reconsideration. If they'd pull 3, I'd let it go personally.
