Churning Advice?

Any good advice on churning cards?

I'm mostly interested just in Amex MR points. I use a Preferred Rewards Gold as my main card, and I have had a Business Open in my name and also in my father's name. I have a Platinum card in my name, and will cancel that shortly and open one for my wife (she is the one who really uses the travel benefits anyway). She has not has a USA-based Amex card in her own name until now.

I spend about $25K a year, so I can easily spend $1-$3K in 3 months, but making $10K in 5 months (as for some of the business cards) is something I can do, but not repeatedly.

It's best to diversify. Look into the Chase Ink Bold and Sapphire. Great cards w/ many bennies.

AmEx cards can be churned but you need to wait 2 years btwn CC closure and re-app. This has worked for Delta and MR cards.

You can also check out more guidelines on churning.

This is a general rule, i.e. from anecdotal evidence and not confirmed by AmEx. So go forward at your own risk.

I would agree that diversification is a beneficial and Chase Sapphire/bold are great cards.

Amex will move a Delta to a SPG, done it...

CC companies want numbers to sell their programs...Chase Citi Amex all of them they sell the programs...and could care less, as long a you qualify..and spend a buck...

I second the recommendation of diversification. That way when certain programs devalue, you won't have all your eggs in one basket.

To be honest as your post concerns "churning"-meaning turning over the same CC over and over: this is a concept that has gotten harder and harder and almost impossible with some cards and even those that can be churned requires a very very long wait between cards and even then it is not guarantee when you apply again. So churning more or less is a thing of the good ole past.

Update - the Delta version has been flipped in 3 months for a profit. YMMV
