Using RBC Avion Points for a Hotel
Just don't do it. Avion uses a third party booking agency (www.alio.ca) and the room rates are higher than what you would pay elsewhere. For example a night at the Cuisinart Anguilla was $545 on the hotel website and $754* on alio.ca for the same room (for which you would use 75,400 points). You will get double that value by using your points for flights booked through Avion rewards, and close to triple if you convert your points for a 50% premium to BA and book a flight through BA or One World Partners.
Hope this helps someone who is a desperate to go somewhere as I am.
