This is some sort of warning about using TYP for hotel booking.
Unlike Expedia, the current provider is using a 3rd party called Hotelbeds to handle hotel booking. Hotelbeds are strictly a wholesaler who mainly cater to incentive programs from what I googled.
When you book a hotel with TYP, your personal information is NOT sent to the hotel until 24 hours before your arrival. They only send a request of a room and then the confirmation number indicates a room is blocked for your arrival date, but the hotel does not know who is coming until 24 hours before you are there.
I had to use TYPs to book a night of hotel at Seville because the period is Holy Week - everything reasonable is booked up long ago, and even with TYP, an outlying hotel costed me 18500 TYPs for the Thursday night. The whole town almost sold out for Good Friday. Later I found out the hotel's own website, for the date it asked 122 euro incl tax no breakfast, the cheapest among Expedia ($243 before tax), Booking.com (144 euro incl tax and breakfast) and TYP 18500 incl tax no breakfast. What is worrisome is, TYP said it had room available for Friday night at the same hotel while every website, including the hotel's own site, said Sold Out. So the data base of TYP may not be real time!
Anyway when I asked the hotel to verify the reservation, they were unable to. Only when I explained to them to check my confirmation number to make sure if a room is blocked under that confirmation, then they are able to link the 2 together.
Given normal time I would not be too concerned, but during the Holy Week I really want to make sure we will have a room when we arrive!
I would avoid using TYPs for hotels largely due to this risk factor.
