Reapplying for a Credit Card

Fresh out of school in August I applied for the select visa and was denied due to no history. since then I have my own apartment (paying bills, etc), full time job, and have an AMEX. should i apply again or wait? I just got an offer for 50,000 bonus miles.

IIRC, you have to wait minimum six months before you can reapply.

You might want to call Chase or write them a letter for reconsideration of your application. Before you call them or write the letter, prepare all the supportive documents.

Or you could give a new application in six months after your previous one.

Good luck!

what would i even need for that? Sounds like a huge hassle, I guess. I feel like having a limited history either way is going to hurt me if they have a set time frame

I recently applied for the UA credit card as well; however, I was also denied due to a short credit history and having too high of a mix of Bank credit cards. I have had a credit card since January of 2004, and they still felt that my history was too short.

This card seems very elusive to get...

Nah. They were on lock down long before the consumer protection laws due to the credit crises they (among a lot of others) caused.

What's wrong with a Citi AA card with 75K bonus miles?

Citi is not easy to deal with, but, lots easier than Chase.

AA isn't a carrier option for me, coupled with the fact all of my miles are invested with united

Many of us here have accounts in all the major airlines with sizable balances in each of them.

If you get the Citi card, then at least you have one card added to your scanty history... plus 75K miles to boot... good for 3 domestic r/t at a minimum ... and almost 2 offpeak Europe r/t...

i don't do that much flying. maybe 3-10k miles a year fluctuating, so i vowed to commit to one program and build from there.

like i said, i have an amex, so i'll probably just let that build for a year

Vows are for monks!

Expand your horizons! @:-)

Once you have enough AA miles to go F to CDG or IST you may find it wasn't such a bad idea.

By the way, why isn't AA program an option? They fly most everywhere.

You can also change AA miles into HHonors points so you have a free hotel to stay at when you take your United trips.

my flights are really only to visit family (IAD-->ORD, SYR, ROC) and the occasional vacation (SFO, ORL). united (*A) is just cheaper. so when you only take ~3 flights a year price matters more than anything

I just applied and got approved for the Chase Priority Club card two days ago. My first CC was in 2005 and they had no problem with my "short" history. So I guess they have a bigger problem with you having too high of a mix of Bank credit cards?

My history with Chase is short (mostly with Citi and BOA), but the last card I applied, the Chase BA card in Dec of last year, went through as well, although it had a jaw-dropping low credit line.

And you turn down the opportunity to get 75K miles for FREE flights?

What kind of logic that is?

Besides, "vow" is not for airlines who couldn't care less for your loyalty unless you are their top tier flyers - that means flying 100K miles a year...

I hope the @:-) would come on...
