Sorry not sure if this is the right forum but how can you tell if multiple inquiries to your credit report got merged?

For example on Equifax:

Company Information:
CHASE BANK USA N.A Date of Inquiry:09/01/11, 07/13/11, 04/18/11, 12/17/10

is all on one line. Does that mean that's one inquiry or multiple?

Looks like 4 inquires from Chase to me. A merge happens when you apply for two cards from the same bank on the same day. You only see the date once in the list. They get merged when both pulls occur on the same day. Say you applied for two Chase cards on 09/01/11 and the date only shows up once in the list instead of twice because they merged the two pulls on 09/01/11 into one at the end of the day.

Which credit agency for Barclaycard

Hey all,

I'm considering applying for Barcleycard's (US) Miles&More credit card. Does anyone know which bureau they use? Asking because my score is not as good with one of them, so I'm hoping that they use one of the others :)

LXFlyer Nov 15, 2011 11:44 pm

Hm... on further reading, it is most likely TransUnion, but it seems they may require proof of permanent residency, which I do not have :(

Izz24703 Nov 21, 2011 5:37 am

Anyone know where the UA Explorer card pulls from? An educated guess would be Experian, as it seems that Chase likes to pull using them....

Yep, in Colorado I can verify it's Experian for UA Explorer. And I believe it is Experian in almost every other region.

Turns out it's TransUnion, at least here in Chicago. Sucks, cause my TransUnion is not nearly as good as Experian.

I only have access to TransUnion via CreditKarma and Experian through CreditSelect - free if you have AAA subscription.

Called two different numbers for CitiBank (customer service, and account analyst 866-606-2787 via DansDeals, but they said nothing could be done. I was explained that as soon as the inquiry comes back as too many inquiries, the application is closed and denied. Perhaps if it was another reason, they could have done something more for me?

In 2010, Barclays used to pull a TransUnion in Florida, but currently they started to pull Experian in addition. Our 3 applications for US Airways MC were recorded in both Experian and TransUnion.

Another datapoint is that Citibank pulls 2 credit reports if applying for 2 cards simultaneously. I applied for ThankYou Premier card and for Hilton Visa, both were approved instantly, but there are 2 records on my Equifax report on the same day. Last year, for 2 Citi AA cards, there were only one pull.

I read an article today on an airmiles blog where she spoke about it being important to know which credit bureau the cards you are applying for pulls from and as I recently got a new BofA and Chase card (and it seems they both pulled from the same credit bureau as when I spoke to the Chase rep on the phone she knew I had gotten a BofA card 2 months ago) I want to know this as I'd like to try and get more signup airmiles bonuses. In reading this thread I see it depends on the state you reside in.

Does anyone know whether Citibank or Amex (seems they have the best airmiles offers) also pull from that same bureau as BofA and Chase do in Seattle (Washington State)?

.

TennisPro Mar 30, 2012 10:38 pm

You can check your credit reports with a free service, or use your free annual credit report, to verify which bureau BofA and Chase pulled. It looks like it varies for Seattle.

Amex generally pulls Experian in Seattle.

It looks like Citibank most often pulls TransUnion in Seattle, which will be good for you, since TransUnion is the hardest to find issuers that pull (only Barclay's pulls TransUnion in many areas).

Thanks for that info. In checking further I see BofA pulled from Experian for
my application (so it seems Chase did too).

As I'm new to all this I wonder/ask how long I should wait then to apply for a Amex as they seem to also use Experian?

TennisPro Apr 1, 2012 4:59 pm

You would most likely get approved today for an Amex card, even with 2 other recent Experian pulls.

There is currently a 50K offer for the Amex Platinum.

Based on your approvals by BofA and Chase, I would say your chances are high of getting approved for the Amex Platinum. And if you are not approved, your application will generally sign you up to receive pre-approved offers in the future from Amex.

Best of luck!

P.S. I have found "Million Mile Secrets" blog to be a very useful resource for finding the best credit card signup bonus offers, and other helpful info. Just google it. There is a page dedicated to current best credit card bonus offers. Unlike some other bloggers, he let's you know the current best deals, not just the deals that generate the best commission for him.

Since 12/2010 (as early as I can tell), my Chase applications (all 6 of them, last one was yesterday) have all resulted in pulls from BOTH Experian and Transunion. Happen to anyone else? With Amex pulling from Experian as well, my Experian inquiries count is up to a whopping 16!

Yes I know I've submitted a lot of apps with Chase, but that's besides the point. Every time I apply I hope they will only pull one, but no. My gf's apps with address in another town/zip (an hour away, same state) only result in one pull for each app, however. Next time, I'm going to use her address and see what happens.

For what it's worth:
Card Issuer: AMEX
Card: Multiple (Personal and Business)
City and State: West Henrietta, NY
Inquiry Dates: Multiple
Credit Agency: Experian
Result: All instant approvals
Note: Pulls same day for personal and business merges

Card Issuer: Citi
Card: Multiple (Personal and Business)
City and State: West Henrietta, NY
Inquiry Dates: Multiple
Credit Agency: Equifax (Most cards show as CBNA, Hilton cards show as CITI)
Result: Eventual approvals on all
Note: Same day pulls from CBNA (ie, Premier) and CITI (ie, Hilton) will not merge, even though issuing bank are same

Card Issuer: Bank of America
Card: Multiple (Personal and Business)
City and State: West Henrietta, NY
Inquiry Dates: Multiple
Credit Agency: Experian for Personal (appears as BANK OF AMERICA); Transunion for Business (appears as BK OF AMER)
Result: Eventual approvals on all except one business card attempt

Card Issuer: Barclays
Card: US Airways
City and State: West Henrietta, NY
Inquiry Dates: 3/9/2011
Credit Agency: Transunion
Result: Denied because I am not citizen or permanent resident

FYI, West Henrietta, NY is near ROC, upstate NY

EDIT: Seems like the inquiries (two separate instances) for the Citi Hilton cards have changed from CITI to CBNA. But not merged with other CBNA inquiries on same date. Anyone know how I can request inquiries to be merged for same creditor on same date?

I use Transunion's TrueCredit service, by the way.

How are you getting this information? FICO score ?

chemist661 Aug 19, 2012 1:39 pm

US Bank CC: Applied 8/12/12. Pulled Experian. Approved.

Citi AA CC (x2): Applied 8/12/12. Pulled Transunion. Both approved.

FICO scores on 6/17/12 (mortgage enhanced)

Experian: 788
Equifax: 804
Transunion: 782

My scores are decent considering my average age of accounts is not very high. (alot of churning in the past ;)). Still plenty high enough to get approvals. :) I usually have very low utilization (sometimes <1%)relative to credit lines.

My scores are now a little lower with a few mortgage inquiries (count as one since all were within 14 days) and two older mortgages (2008) paid off plus two new refi's (rental properties) on the report. Still 3 of 3 approvals. :)

My estimated scores would be at least in the mid 700's since I have a "thick" credit file and active credit lines going back to the mid 1990's. (my 1980's stuff dropped off since I closed those lines about 11 yrs ago--dumb on my part but oh well).
