US Bank - Annual Fee Waiver / Retention Bonus - All cards

Hi,

My Flexperks annual fee is coming up soon. For my spending and travel patterns the Worldperks visa was worth the annual fee but the Flexperks is not. Has anyone had the annual fee waived or reduced?

How about switching to another US Bank Credit Card? Right now I thinking about the REI credit card. Someone mentioned that they call customer service and they "couldn't" switch the cards. I would rather not cancel the card and re-apply for another.

friedice Feb 16, 2010 4:49 pm

When I called to cancel mine they offered me to convert the card to a no annual fee card which would earn 1mile/$2.

I recieved a notice today mine was being waived due to over 24000 spend. I charged quite a few dollar coins before the quit gining points. Just got travelocity card so won't be using as much this year but will continue to charge gas at 2 point per dollar.rbc100

I got this notice also - annual fee waived. I am a big AMEX user, but use the Flexperks card for my business vendors who do not take AMEX. So far, so good. I've gotten 2 plane tickets without hassle, and I will be using it more often now since AMEX no longer is accepted by SW Air in their Rapid Rewards program (which is a key ingredient for me).

Got the same brochure and notice. Good to go 'til early 2011 (kinda like hotel status), so no rush to use the usmint driven points until then. No chance in h*** I'll get 24k in spend on this card w/o the coin deal, however, so it'll be one more and done for the flexperks.

Eurosport Feb 19, 2010 2:23 pm

looks like everyone is getting it, i know i haven't spent the whole 24k this year...
good move on their part for sure, must show more love for exWP

susieling May 19, 2010 3:47 pm

Did everyone get fee waived? I just saw the charge on my card ... however, there is an option right next to it saying redeeming 3500 points to offset the annual fee, but when I click continue, I got "your annual fee is already waived because your spent over ... per year so NO need to redeem" even if I know "i did NOT spend that much and I DO see the charge on my statement"..

psyflyer May 20, 2010 7:54 am

I also have this card since 2002 when it was worldperks and I used fly NW. I have not used this flexperks card for at least two years but have been paying the $49 fee bcs its my oldest card in my credit history and figure if I cancel it I will also loose 8 years of history with these folks. Does anyone know if I convert it to a no fee credit card if you loose your history with this card that might affect your credit rating in a negative way? Thanks :)

My $49 annual fee billed on my latest statement. I telephoned FlexPerks Customer Service, asking for options not to pay the annual fee. FlexPerks Customer Service volunteered a "bonus" of 3500 points, just for telephoning. She promised those "bonus" points would post on the June statement. Then, she transfered me to the FlexPerks Redemptions Department. For the same 3500 points which will be awarded as a bonus, I was able to pay the annual fee. This seems a bit convoluted, but the net result was payment of the annual fee without cost and without a sacrifice of points!

Thanks, 2 for 2

I just called. just like you said. They gave me 3500 bonus points just for asking to have the fee waived. I am still planning on getting another 3500 bonus points for meeting spend goal in May - June.
I hung up dialed CSR back , handed the phone to wife and she got the same offer.
We are happy, and US Bank can still say , "we do not waive the fee"

Same here, called in, and with barely any prodding was offered the 3500 points.

I was denied annual fee waiver

I just called and the lady said they would not waive it. She said that I was offered (which was true) a 3,500 bonus if I spend 1,500 in May-June -- and that counts as the 3,500. I then asked about downgrading the card to the one w/o an annual fee, which she avoided answering and went back to you are already going to get the fee waived. I then asked clearly if there is a card that does not have an annual fee, and she said yes but that I have to apply for that card and that my current card cannot be converted. Should I call again and try to get someone else?

What do you say over the phone? And did the CSR pull our your account and check it specially before giving out this bonus (so it could be specific to each account)? I called and was told there is no such promo for just phoning and asking.. (and they need mention that I have already subscribed the offer to get 3500 points by spending XXX dollars between May-Jun).. Just hoping to get both..

Thanks

Call again, I downgraded two days ago with no problem.

Speaking of downgrade, if I downgrade during the year, does anyone know whether the annual fee will refund as prorated? also, what about the promo that I signed up already "bonus miles after spending XXX during May-June period", will it still be effective or get void? thanks

I just asked what the options were for waiving the annual fee. I was told it's "a legitimate fee" and that they could offer 3500 points to offset the fee.

Keflyer May 25, 2010 10:40 am

Same offer

I was offered 3500 points each for the 2 accounts I have as well. I will have to pay up first and then there will be 49.oo credit tht I can cash out or leave in the account to pay for my expenditure.

Are your "2 accounts" couting the business card? Thanks

I called and they gave me 3500points which I can use for waiving the fee. All I have to do is wait 5-7 days and then I am able to transfer them for the fee. Great deal and good job us bank!^

ayya May 25, 2010 7:37 pm

Did you call customer service number on the back of the card or some other number. I tried twice and both times they suggested using points in my account to pay for the annual fee. They wouldn't give any bonus points. Also they mentioned that I am enrolled for the 3500 bonus points for spending $250 and I can use those points.

novaguy30 May 25, 2010 9:59 pm

As sivayya said, they arent offering me anything other than you are signed up for the 3,500 bonus points that you get if you spend more than 1500 through June. I called during the weekend. Should I call during the week? Am I calling the wrong number (I'm using the one on the back of the card). ???????????

Yes I did. I had ZERO points (never use this card and long story on why I have it) so she suggested gifting me 3500 points and when they hit I have to call the rewards number and ask them use them to waive my fee. Perhaps they are suggesting you use your EXISTING points.... :td: Good luck.

cheapgambler May 26, 2010 10:21 am

waive fee

I called the number on my bill. I assume that is the number on the back of the card. They said they would put 3500 points in my account and than i could use them for the fee. They said they should show up next month. I have two cards both personal as I had two NW cards. They waived the fee on both of them. I assume I will also get the additional points for charging during May and June. I have a lot of points in both accounts. My question now is do I have to use those points for the fee?

Keflyer May 26, 2010 1:22 pm

Hi Susieling,

Both are personal cards from NW worldperks time.

Hmmm... I would also like to downgrade. But, I have already put a lot on this card since the last statement. Would I lose (half) the points on charges I have already made? How about downgrading after the next statement closes? Would they refund the annual fee?

tgienger May 27, 2010 12:58 pm

After seeing this thread, I too called in and got the 3500 points to redeem for my annual fee. Question is, do I have to use those 3500 points for that? Or can I just add them to my stash?

$49 / 3500 = 1.4 cents per mile. Not bad in my book.

robbert May 27, 2010 6:35 pm

I value the 3,500 points higher than the $49 annual fee so I'm keeping them. With these bonuses the points add up faster than I thought they would. I like this product.

+1. 20,000 points can get a flight of up to $400, or 2 cpp. So I wouldn't use the 3,500 points to offset the annual fee, although my annual fee is waived from spending over $24K, mostly on coins.

I didn't receive the 3,500 bonus points offer everybody is talking about. Perhaps it is offered only to those with the annual fee coming up?

I would still call them and say that a friend got the 3500 points towards the annual fee. From the messages here it seems those who get the points use the card(s) quite a bit. Never hurts to ask.

Business account annual fee?

Did anyone here have a business FlexPerks credit card account? I have one and my annual fee showed up on my statement already, and I am wondering whether anyone has a successful story about fee waived as well? Thanks

I am curious about this as well.

I called and was offered the bonus points to redeem for the annual fee. They said it will be available in 2 months, in August I could redeem this points for $49
credit in my account. However, I have to pay for the fee now.

Keflyer Jun 16, 2010 2:51 pm

Same thing here

Update 6/18
3500 points posted as promised.

I was offered that same thing earlier. I hv paid my $49 fee and waiting for the points to post. I will post back when I see those points.

I called today to ask about downgrading the business Flexperks to the one with no annual fee, and they told me that if I do that, I would forfeit all the points. Is that everyone else's experience when downgrading?

Not familiar with the business card, but I know that the personal card allows for no fee transfer of points.

Couldn't you transfer the points off to a personal account and then get them back?

You could even send them to a friend.

I know that after getting my ticket, I had about 4,000 points left and sent them to my brother's account before canceling the account.

No fee transfers rock!

UserMark Jul 9, 2010 7:13 am

This business card is the only one I have. Maybe I should find a friendly FT'er who will temporarily park my points :)

I cancelled my business card because US Bank wasn't willing to waive the annual fee. Before I cancelled it though, I transferred all the points to my spouse account to keep them safe. :D

NWA_5479 Feb 2, 2012 1:29 pm

Just got a quick 3500 when calling today asking about eliminating the fee. They said they will post on the next statement.

Mixmaster300 May 31, 2013 3:07 pm

Just read through this thread wondering if I got lucky or there is a change in bonus points for waiving the annual fee. The annual fee posted to my account on May 29, 2013. I was just shy of the 24,000 spending mark for waiving the annual fee so I called customer service. I was told the fee could not be waived but was offered 7000 points without any threat to downgrade or close the account. The customer service rep then transferred me to a Flexperks service rep who took 3500 points and said $49 would be credited to my account in 4 to 6 weeks. The 7000 points is supposed to be credited on the next statement.
