Foreign Transaction Fee

Has anyone received this fee and had it successfully removed? I guess I should have been more aware before using my Citi Biz MC in the Caribbean. Are any other cards doing this now as well?

You'll have no luck getting this removed. There are 3 or 4 cards out there that don't charge the fee. Do a search on "forex" in this forum.

I've gotten it waived/refunded as a one-time courtesy, but this was a little while ago (probably 4 months or so).

Now I use CapitalOne which doesn't charge the fee when I am booking anything outside the US (in US dollars) or in foreign currency.

These fees came to light several years ago (10+) and were the subject of antitrust litigation (which I think has been resolved now). Anyway, one thing that came of the litigation is that at least the CC cos have the courtesy to state explicitly that they are charging these fees (or rate markups).

Capital One and a few others do not charge them.

Lightbulb Thank you andyli for the tip

I was successfully able to have the fee removed as a one time courtesy! I now know better than to use the Citi Biz card abroad and will stick to the recommendations by you, portfolioflyer, and drewguy or turn to my Citigold debit card when traveling overseas. Thanks again for the tip!
