TD AAdvantage Visa holders - just a warning
Have a TD AAdvantage Visa; needed to buy something roughly double my credit limit (had to pay by visa). Did a transfer to my Visa from my account online (so verified funds), noticed my credit limit didn't update like it normally does immediately (I have had to do something like this a couple times before, but usually for just slightly more than my credit limit.
Call up customer service. Since the payment was over my limit, it would be held 3 days for verification. Of course I didn't really care to wait that long. I wanted to do the purchase that day. Asked to have the payment reversed into my account, and I would use my CIBC Visa instead (since I have done this with them before). Can't do that. Also, you can't charge something that's more than your credit limit even if you put the card into a credit balance.
Took me three escalations and 45 minutes to get to a supervisor (who didn't speak with an Indian accent) who finally verified the funds and released them.
If you find yourself in this position just call first to save yourself some time. Either that or use CIBC who at least in my experience don't do this.
Hope that saves some people frustration in the future.
