Thesedays you can never say never, but France will likely retain the current status without adding any more restrictions, at least thru New Years (despite scientists pushing the politicians).

Transiting through LHR to Spain for a week then France one week from today. What could go wrong? But seriously what are the rules on this. I'm on the ground at LHR for like 5 hours before continuing on to Madrid from Chicago.

I don’t know you’ll need to check - you maybe ok if you’re in Spain for a week in between

Austria number should be interesting. They are emerging out of a 20-day lockdown, going from over 13,000 a day at peak to under 1800 yesterday.

Germany and Austria cases started rising a few weeks before they did in France, Spain etc and both Austria and Germany are coming down from their peaks.

Approval of new Covid jab raises hopes of persuading Germany’s unvaccinated

The approval of a new protein-based Covid-19 vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has led to hopes that it could play an important role in persuading millions of Germans who have refused jabs from existing vaccines to get protection against the disease this winter.

The EMA approved the two-dose Novavax vaccine on Monday afternoon. The German government’s vaccination advisory board is expected to follow suit and allow for its use soon, a move that would be welcomed by health experts who are bracing for a huge and imminent wave of infections caused by the new Omicron variant. The first doses of Novavax are expected to be administered in Germany in the new year.

In a survey by the German pollster Forsa this autumn, 56% of participants said their vaccine willingness would rise if vaccines based on so-called “classical methods”, such as Novavax and Valneva, were approved. Only 5% said they would be lured to have a vaccination by monetary reward or the threat of being excluded from activities as a result of their unvaccinated status.

Slightly OT but thinking of London between Christmas and new year — do I need an NHS Covid pass to get in or will all venues/restaurants/museums etc accept a USA CDC card? Can an American somehow (quickly) get an NHS COVID Pass?

thanks!

You don't need anything to get in. Only larger venues like cinemas and theatres need the pass. There is a chance that will change. If it did I think the CDC card would be good enough.
