Gold Status to my additional card holder.

I receive today that I can gift gold Status to the additional credit card holder of my main Connectmiles brand credit card. Do you think 999$, really worth that price the gold status?.
I wanna buy it for my mother. She generally fly copa 5 - 6 times a year. She generally gets close to gold, but never achieve it.
I am actually gold status, but I get it through butt in the seat.
I love the benefits in gold status. However I wanna know your opinion.

Thanks to all the sub forum for your updates, tips and news.

Gold Status with Copa gets you Star Alliance Gold, there's no credit card that gives Star Alliance Gold that i'm aware of.

I used to have the BAC Connectmiles infinite Visa, that granted Connectmiles Silver status. Are you referring to that?

No, there is a real offer for Gold Status for 999 $ usd. Yeah my visa Infinite, give me silver Status as his inherent benefits. The offer is through Grupo Promerica Bank and Copa Airlines. You must be a Connectmiles Visa Infinte holder for be able to receive the offer.

That's an interesting offer. The price is steep, but if you are able to gift it to your mother, and you are not gold organically I would definitely take 2 Connect Miles / Star Alliance Gold upgrades for $999

I got the same email from St George Bank Panama.
The price for GOLD is enough, the only way to know if a good deal depends on:
  • Actually, have a silver status?
  • Will take advantage of luggage benefits in Copa, will get 3 luggage of 32 kgs.
  • Increase the upgrade benefits when flight in short routes, typical less of 3 hours flights (except Monday and Fridays) where is easy get upgrade to Business class. In long routes like Brazil, LAX, JFK, EZE ...... typically dont get upgrade for GOLD members (everything's full)
  • Use a lounge, especially in Europe or Asia airports where are greats
  • Use a Start alliance benefits like preferred lines and 1 extra luggage for free.
Just with the baggage allowance alone, this pays for itself.

It's only for the additional card of the co brand credit card holder. You can actually buy it for yourself for 999$ but it's only for one person.

Yeah I actually consider a lot those exact points. Principally, the bag benefit.

Pd: with gold you get a lot more upgrade chances in those routes. I always fly at least 2 times a year to EZE and two others to MVD. In silver, you never get a chance for upgrade. When I achieve gold status, I always get upgrade im the segments PTY - EZE and PTY - MVD. However in routes like JFK and IAD, I never ever got an upgrade, because everybody bids for the business seat, and that's completely fair and ok.

Too expensive IMO then, I value Copa Gold Status/Star Alliance Gold at $600 max

I think $1k is way too high for SAG status. 100 UA +Ps can get you SAG gifting as well, son any friend with UA 1K/GS status can gift such status a few times

But with USA *G you won't get United club access flying domestically or economy though

That's an interesting card, thanks for the info!

It's a fair value. However, if you fly 4 times a year and use the benefit of the third bag with overweight, you can even get more than 999$ worth of value. That's my calculations because with 4 flights, depending the routes, you are not even achieving silver Status.
