Unable to cancel UA PlusPoints upgrade on Copa
Used my United PlusPoints to upgrade two segments of a Copa Airlines itinerary using United’s online form. One was correct, then I realized I accidentally submitted the request online for the wrong return flight, upgrading a short leg from MDE to PTY for two travelers instead of their long-haul flight from PTY to SFO.
The relevant United website says "If you wish to make changes or cancel your PlusPoints upgrade request, please contact Copa Airlines." However, I have called Copa three times now and spent over an hour on each call trying to either cancel the upgrade or shift it to the long-haul flight, and they said that they cannot since it has processed and that it must be done through United (makes no sense; just move the seats back to coach!).
When I called the United Premier 1K desk, however, they said that change must be done by Copa since it has processed on their end. Seems like I’m stuck between the two airlines with no one bothering to go the extra mile to actually help.
Anyone encountered this before? Any ideas? Am I just out of luck because one one silly mistake?
