Copa Lounge Access SFO

Hello,

I know the United Polaris lounge is currently closed, but did Copa Business Class passengers have access to the Polaris SFO lounge when it was opened?

The United website says 'Long Haul' Star Alliance flights should have access, SFO to PTY is about 7 hours, which I'm hoping is considered 'long haul.'

I'm thinking of booking a flight on Copa for October 2022, hoping the Polaris lounge will be open by then. Thanks!

Damn that's unfortunate, so what lounge access do Copa flyers have at SFO?

There are multiple United Clubs at SFO accessible for Copa business class passengers.

The one located in the International Terminal (between gates G6 and G9) has just reopened.

As a Star Alliance premium class passenger I would like to believe access would be allowed when it reopens.

However there is this for Star Alliance member airline passengers:

4. Long-haul international flights include those from the U.S. to Asia, Australia, Europe and select South American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru.

Sadly, Central America is not included.

Yes, PTY is not considered "long haul" for purposes of Polaris lounge access

I think this is nonsense. SFO-PTY is 7+ hrs, has lie-flat seating (on the 73M) and you don't get Polaris Lounge Access? C'mon.

While I agree with you and I personally think UA is just being cheap. UA has excluded Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean from lounge access on UA flights for as long as I can remember.

Here are UA's access rules for United Club and Polaris locations. In particular those items annotated with footnotes 1 and 4. If I read it correctly you will get UC access and no guest privileges.

How about when continuing on to a final destination beyond PTY: GRU Brazil for example.

Sorry I left out some data.

SFO-PTY-GRU in Copa J
Polaris will admit Star Alliance J on South American flights, but wondered how they interpret this with PTY connections.

SFO-PTY is not aplicable for Polaris Lounge access. PTY-GRU is not on UA
