Caution with Fare Rules on "Refundable" Tickets (on UA Codeshares?)
A colleague learned the hard way about misleading fare classes when booking tickets on the CM website. I believe this only occurs for itineraries with UA codeshare flights.
In the flight selection matrix, select a flight from the "Economy Full" column. On the next page, "Itinerary Summary" you should see something like this:
Wouldn't most travelers assume that Economy Full (Y) means a fully refundable ticket? Click on the Fare Rules link.
The Penalty is NRF here, which I presume means "Non-refundable Fare". Other bookings show a simple dash under penalty.
Regardless of my interpretation, CM told my colleague it was indeed non-refundable.
I found this for many CM itineraries with UA codeshares, and in fact was unable to find any itinerary with a UA code share that did not have this. Doesn't seem to affect any all-CM itinerary.
