MR for Gold?
I am about 7K away from requalifying for Gold, but not sure if I should do a MR to reach the level. When I was United Silver I still often received the upgrades, so not sure if I would need Gold for that. The lounge access is nice, but now with Priority Pass from CSR, maybe I don't need it? Thoughts?

it might be worth it if only a couple hundred bucks. As you will be battling CC holders for upgrades when you drop to Silver next year - could be an issue for busier routes

I did a "segment run" PTY-DAV-PTY for $177. Upgraded both ways. Both flights left with plenty on the u/g list.
I now am darned glad I'm doing it for Pres Plat status. I am now seeing many flights with lengthy lists and full clase ejecutivo cabins.

I will also hit Pres Plat status in a few weeks, and I also observe more and more full J cabins.
No chance though that I can maintain that going forward. We've had 17 months to reach it this time round, which has made a big difference.
And this may be also explain why so many people are now hitting Prefer status. This may not be the case as qualification period from now on will be one calendar year.
