Upgrading on COPA

Hi all - I have my first flights on COPA coming up and am especially dreading the 6:30 flight from Panama to Santiago. Does anyone know if it is possible to pay for upgrades in some way? I tried using * points but the itinerary includes flights on LAN and thus has been ticketed on LA stock so that doesn't work. Is it possible, for example, to pay at the airport?

I'm not very good with economy class flights

Thanks, I was looking in my reservation cuz I could've sworn that's where I did this before (and reported on FT somewhere about it!) but it wasn't there this time. But here you are to the rescue! I like this system, bid on MDE-PTY-MEX but not MEX-PTY-MDE as those are morning flights and I don't need breakfast and won't drink.

I bid on 3 flights (for 2 of them the maximum amount) but didn't 'win' any, even though none of the flights were full in business

I suppose it's hit or miss, the max is pretty high, I wonder why they wouldn't have taken it.

I'd be very curious to see how they do it. I did minimum bids on both of mine.

The other time I did it I did a minimum +15 or something and got one. It was just PTY-MDE and the flight is < 2 hours but they do give you nice treatment and you beat the customs line which for a small airport can really suck at MDE because they don't have too many agents so if 2 flights show up at once it's slow. That said, the flight I was on happened to hit lots of turbulence, and I was in the last J row. I got 1 drink, and some nuts. That's it. Some people got 1-2 drinks and food, but she didn't make it back to me before the troubles. It was bouncy the rest of the flight, to the point where I don't think they picked up the garbage before landing either, obvs no one's fault, but it was a bummer since I had paid like $100 or whatever it was.
