Copa, locked baggage question
I am looking at flying from SAL (or GUA) to Canada via PTY. Does PTY and SAL (or GUA) cut bags open like the TSA. I plan on doing my Christmas shopping in Central America and would like to buy local handicrafts. Obviously there is a limit to how much I can pack in my carry on and I would like to know how luggage is handled in these airports. Thanks.

Copa, locked baggage question
Once I did my christmas shopping in CUN, flew CM on the way back and had some missing items on arrival. My bags were locked. I don't know if the "unlock" was done in CUN, PTY or SCL, but I'd be careful with what you pack on CM.

I wish I could help, but I don't lock my bags.
I try not to put anything of value in them. If I am forced to do so (maybe a bottle of whiskey), then it goes on the bottom and wrapped in lots of clothes (preferably dirty). That way, if they do want to steal, they need to unpack the entire suitcase. I always try to put dirty clothes on top.
I've been lucky so far. I have never had anything taken on CM.
NOTE: I would say that 90% of the time when I come from the US, I find at least one bag with a notification from TSA that they had opened it.
