Clarification Re: New Mileathon
 

Hi, I'm not sure how to read the following regarding Mileathon that starts tomorrow:

*This offer is not retroactive; credit accrual begins the date of registration.

If I were to book a trip TODAY for mid September travel, would I receive Mileathon credit when I fly in mid September?

NO. you would not receive the credit for making the purchase. If you want to receive mileathon credit you need to make your purchase after you register.


You *might* receive the credit for checking in, but I would not count on it.

Sadly for me, this is the third Mileathon in a row that I cannot benefit from. Do Continental not value folks that buy one way tickets ?. I almost never have a round trip, I am always going either one way, or flying out of one and returning from another. This happened two mileathons ago, I bought about 40 trips, and got zip for it.

Really? I got a lot of points in the last one for one way trips. They post at half the number of points as a roundtrip.

The last one I wasn't invited for (it targeted almost everyone I know except me). The one before was the one that I was targeted, but my flying habits didn't qualify. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it if you are right and that is what happens this time around

Just tried to sign up and received this message:

Perhaps I got this because I’m in CA right now, my computer is on Pacific time, and it’s not yet 1 Sept?

And I did get the email invite about a week ago when the link wasn’t yet active.

Update: it’s after midnight CA time, and I got the same message. Will try again in the morning.

Hi From NYC, we're aware of the issue, and it should be corrected later this morning.

Hi CO_Nonrev_elite, we've actually run this promotion both ways in the past (bad pun intended). I'll double check to see if one way booking will earn Mileathon credits this time around.

I got the above error message too. Incidentally, if you read the terms and conditions, here is what it says about round trip and one-way flights.

Purchasing tickets

Flight credits are earned on tickets purchased and flown in J, F, C, D, Z, Y, B, M, H, K, Q, U or V fare classes. OnePass number must be provided at the time of booking. Credits will be earned upon travel completion. Travel must be completed between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009, to qualify for credit. All qualifying travel must be for round-trip flights operated by Continental Airlines; Continental Express*; Continental Micronesia and Continental Connection** for which you are earning OnePass miles. Not valid on any other codeshare flights. One-way travel will qualify for half of the credit earning indicated for a specified fare class. Bonus miles do not count toward Elite qualification.

Now I had a few one ways that did not post last year but I did not follow up because it wouldn't have helped me get closer to the next threshold.

Edited to add: I just noticed that this mileathon is only good for fares booked at continental.com. CO Insider, those of us who have to book via a corporate travel agent still get no love. I book the required fare classes to get my miles at the 100% level with my TA. This is yet another promotion where those who are required to use an alternative source for travel bookings get messed over.
