Unfortunately, this was the spokesperson saying, in the most diplomatic way possible, that no one survived without actually pronouncing those onboard deceased.

I believe the survivors were on the ground unfortunately.

ETA: around 20:30 in the FAA tape the tower sends rescue squad to look for the missing plane.

It's a Q400. That plane has a rather checkered safety history. I'm sure you'll be hearing all about it tomorrow.

And if it was being flown by Colgan, it's a pretty safe bet that someone with Capt. Sully's experience was not at the controls.

Of course, it's really too early to speculate as to the cause.

ok here is rough outline of the ATC tape

BUF approach clears CO to descend to 2300 ft, and set for an ILS approach into BUF.

CO reads back the instruction

next call hands CO off to BUF tower for landing, again CO reads it back.

CO does not contact tower.

Then, well nothing the CO does not respond to anymore calls.

A DL flight reports negative on VFR conditions at CO's last reported altitude.

Very sad news indeed. My condolences to all the family and friends of the crew and passengers.

Also, one clarification: Although CO will take the heat for this accident, the flight was operated by Colgan Air under contract to CAL.

Also, here is link to database of previous Colgan Air accidents:
