Month-to-date (2/8) consolidated load factor is 66.1%

Yesterday (Monday, Feb 9) looked like the movie "28 Days Later..." at SFO. There were various empty seats in first on my midday transcon.

Part of the explanation was that Lincoln's birthday is observed by many CA schools.

I've noticed that my commute EWR-CLE-EWR has come down in price to $199 / wk instead of consistently over $300 a couple weeks ago. That will save me $400-$600/mo so I can help stimulate the economy. Hopefully CO continues flying that route, otherwise I'll be in trouble.

Steph3n Feb 10, 2009 9:37 am

Wish CO still served an airport within an hour of me and I did not have to drive to grab some of these specials.
Almost cheaper to fly around the US than to stay at home and eat at resturants.

I have only been on 5 flights so far this year, but they have all been empty. Like scary-empty, we're talking less than 1/3 full in Y, so many completely empty rows, and in one case even empty seats in F (on a transcon).

Steph3n Feb 10, 2009 10:00 am

I haven't been on any empty flights....well a saab on sunday had a few empty seats but not even a weight and balance shift which had become quite common.

walkerci Feb 10, 2009 1:54 pm

I've flown 10 segments this year. They were all full or nearly so, same as for the preceding year.

That said, I fly mostly Sunday afternoons and Friday mornings - MCO - ABQ - MCO. Maybe the other days are slower.

My IAH-PDX and PDX-IAH flight are both very full.

AUS-IAH and AUS-IAH are unusually empty.

EWR is deserted

When TBL and I left on Friday it was in the middle of a day and it was QUIET. Seats in Y on the flt. The return on Sunday also had seats available in Y and again EWR Term. 3 was empty.

Then again, it may just be my perspective. I had a coworker from FL with me in NYC last week and when I said the city seemed empty he looked at me as if I lost my mnd.

Presidents Weekend

Take a look at the bookings (transcon) for Feb 13 and 14 -- tough to get a seat to LAX/SAN/SFO.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8320/4.5.0.81 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Commute flights for me (NYC-DCA) dropped to $98+ rt, so I gave CO another try. Still don't like the turboprops or lack of free standby, but service was fine. Flights about 2/3 full.

bobblevins Feb 10, 2009 4:21 pm

Nine of 10 mainline segments for 2009 were all near 100% in my experience.

Vulcan Feb 10, 2009 7:31 pm

I exited the C-3 security checkpoint at EWR today at 4PM. THere were maybe 25 people in total in the security lines.

rkkwan Feb 12, 2009 10:02 am

And the consolidated LF number keeps going down.

Up to 2/8, it was 66.1%. 2/9, 66.0%. 2/11 65.7%. The last 3 days were weekdays, so it's not just due to holidays/weekends.

JerseyCityS Feb 12, 2009 1:01 pm

I just bought a EWR LHR RT in May, $298 before taxes. Never have seen that in my life.

There is a french speaking CO FA in my building in Jersey City, and she commented that the flights to CDG for the past 6 weeks has been running around 30 - 60 passengers total as a norm. Very sad.
