Copa EQM Question

Hello all. I'm now addicted to FlyerTalk and want to become elite like the rest of you. I have a feeling this is going to be bad for my wallet!

I'm now trying to book EWR-IAH-PTY-MVD and back for May on co.com. EWR-IAH-PTY are both L fares and CO codes, and PTY-MVD is T a fare and CM code.

According to Co.com EQM rules, if I book a T fare on copaair.com, I get 100% EQMs; booked elsewhere it is 50%.

Does anyone know whether this holds true if it is booked on co.com (i.e. only 50%)?

On the booking page, the onepass section for that flight (CM203) shows:

OnePass Miles/Elite Qualification:
3,385

In other words, there is no "/100%" or "/50%" after the mileage like there is for the other segments.

Sorry if this is confusing, I'm not really sure how to make myself clear.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

don't know what price you are getting via co.com but have you tried directly at copaair.com ?

you get a 2k miles bonus for buying online there

copaair.com will only let me book CO codeshare flights, so it won't let me get from EWR to IAH. at least I think that's the problem, anyway it won't let me book EWR to MVD.

this is $566 r/t all-in. that's very cheap to get to montevideo, plus the 13k in miles

I just booked a Copa flight from Panama to Caracas on CO.com in Y Class. The reservation summary does not show any EQM. This is a clitch? CO.COM show that Y class should give me 150%. 150% of zero is still zero. This is a clitch? Should I worry?

Agreed - it's not a glitch. You will get the proper EQM's.

However, you should be aware that COPA miles are a little slow to post to OP. In my experience, the base RDM and EQM miles take up to 10 days to post, and bonus EQM's take up to 2 weeks. The 50% bonus will post at the same time at the flight miles, and the 25% bonus will show up a little later. You will get the 25% bonus on the 50% (i.e. total EQM's posted will be 187.5% of base miles).

EDIT NOTE: In my original reply, I said that I did not know how the 50% bonus worked, since I had never booked Y. I had forgotten that I had done so just this past August, and the info above reflects how the miles were posted for me.

Further, the bonus miles for different legs don't always post at the same time. On my last trip, the bonus miles for the second leg of the outbound posted a week before the bonus miles for the first leg.

Coolcoil,

Are saying that if I book the flights on COPAAIR.COM instead of CO.com. I will get 25% bonus EQM in addition to the fare class bonus?

Yes - all flights booked at copaair.com get a 25% bonus. That's been the case for all of 2011. I have not seen anything that says it will continue in 2012, but I suspect that it will continue. I have received the bonus on all of my copaair.com-booked flights this year. You will NOT get the bonus if you book on CO.com

However, you cannot book flights that are not all COPA (or COPA Colombia) metal on the website (though somebody else may know a trick that I don't). Any codeshares need to be done by phone or CO.com, so you would not get the bonus in that case.

http://www.copaair.com//sites/cc/en/...00-Millas.aspx

Also, if the EQM's are not critical, you may want to look at Orbitz. I have found that the same flight is often much less there. For my IAD-MDE trips, Orbitz has been about $75 cheaper for the same itinerary during the past 5 months. I have had no problems on my COPA flights booked there. EUA worked normally, and I was able to see my reservation and make seat selections on copaair.com. The only difference was that I had to get to my reservation by using the confirmation number rather than finding it under "My Trips."

The only downside to Orbitz is that you can only look at one outbound and inbound day at one time. So, I use the "my dates are flexible" check box on copaair.com, find the cheapest date pairs that work for me, and then look at the same date pair on Orbitz.
