It is to meet international standards and allow developing countries to use the same format (with older systems) as developed countries. |
2-4"
We're still calling for 2-4" too in the Houston metro area. The difference with this snowstorm and last year's is that the transition to snow will occur during the middle of the day whereas the transition occurred right around 5p last year. It's going to be tough to get accumulations going during daylight hours, so this event probably won't be as accumulation-heavy as last year's. A big mess in IAH nonetheless.

IIRC, Austin's snow is/was always going to be dependent on whatever moisture was available to the upper-level low riding down out of Colorado, independent of the forming Gulf Low.
Houston's precip would be dependent upon the interaction of that upper-level low with any wrap-around moisture on the Northwest side of the surface low in the Gulf. That creates the potential for significantly more precip over our area than in the Hill Country, but it all comes down to timing. Anything but icing..... |
All CRP-IAH and IAH-CRP cancelled but all WN CRP-HOU and HOU-CRP are running and on time. Interesting.

Well my Aunt just got hit with the cancellation issues. She was to fly IAH-TPA at 11:30. Flight got cancelled even though it is a 737. Interesting.

High Noon, ACT....
Flurries of large "dry" snowflakes coming down. Ground temp still well above freezing (No permafrost here!), and air temp still in mid 30s. Obviously freezing at low altitude. AUS next.... |

We did have a wee bit by Parmer/35 but it's stopped already.
editing: Sorry - I lied. It's snowing and sunny. |
It snowed for half an hour, with nothing sticking of course, and has been cloudless and sunny ever since. |
