I posted a while back about winning a RT ticket from Newark-Oahu and was looking for suggestions/ideas on how to upgrade these tix to first class.
My trip is the last week in September. I have about 36k in One Pass miles but don't think that will get it done.
Kind of tight on cash after booking some high end hotels in Hawaii and was hoping to connect with a Continental employee to "negotiate" a deal.
My question is on the day of my flight if there are several FC seats available how much can I expect to pay for the upgrade per ticket ?
$500, $750, $1000 ??

The only known type of negotiation is the BF copay.

If there are seats available on the day of departure, you may do a "Rev Up" at the airport for $350 (or is it $400?) per seat. If you are elite, you may do a Rev UP by calling the elite line within 24 hours of departure. Other than that, you would have to upfare to a BF fare or try to do a mileage upgrade.

Also note that for the Rev Up, there have to be seats available on the date of departure. If you are on the EWR-HNL nonstop, you should expect that there will be no BF seats available, as this flight often sells out in BF.

Elites can call the Elite Desk 24 hours before the flight and request to pay for an upgrade (similar to the way it worked years ago for domestic flights). As mentioned earlier, seats do need to be available and it is often hit or miss in regards to success rates. This can also be requested at the check-in desk or gates, though sometimes agents are not familiar with the process.
Just ask them to search for REVUP in there systems - it worked great for me when taking advantage of the $275 fares to HNL a couple years ago.
