In anticipation of EWR coming on for Global Entry and a fair amout of Int'l travel planning going on, we both completed the on-line application last Thursday evening and received our conditional approval and notice to schedule an appointment at noon today.
I was very pleasantly surprised at the speed of processing.

Has anyone who doesn't live in one of the enrollment center cities figured out a good way to schedule an appointment? I'd like to enroll, but coordinating the required interview with travel through one of the available enrollment centers seems like it might be difficult.

i just got an email from CO saying this is available at EWR. i'm trying to figure out if its worth it for about 5 trips per year. aside from the $100 it says you have to be interviewed by the us customs and border protection people. i might not like what that would turn up

The application process on the other hand is quite intrusive. They dug up a 21 year old DUI ARREST (not conviction, arrest) from my past that I thought was long gone and wouldn't matter anyway. (It's not suposed to matter, you are allow one every ten years according to the rules. But, I had to explain why I didn't disclose it...)
The whole thing is very worthwhile. I came back from London (to IAH) and swear the seatbelt sign was off at 12.20 and I was in my truck at 12.40 even stopping for a Starbucks. (No checked bags.)

I am also trying to decide if it is worth it. 99% of the time on an international flight I have checked luggage so I still have to wait for that anyway. Saving time in the passport line would be great but then I would just have that much longer waiting for the bags.

Have a trip to London for the last week in Sept., 1st int'l trip since Global Entry was set up at EWR. Looking forward to giving the GE machines a try. Signed up for it a long time ago, but, using EWR all the time, haven't been able to use it yet.

GOES v. Nexus
How does GOES differ from NEXUS? I take it that GOES is better?

The NEXUS program is only for travel between the US and Canada. When travelling by air from Canada to the US you will clear US customs in Canada before boarding your flight. NEXUS kiosks are in place at all Canadian airports. NEXUS is accepted for entry into Canada, GOES is not.
GOES is for all international travel into the US. If you are already enrolled in the NEXUS program and are a U.S citizen or permanent resident then you can join GOES for free.

It shouldn't be any different. When you claim your baggage, you bypass the lines using the GE lane. That should save you time.

Might as well chime in -- GOES is the Global Online Enrollment System where you sign up for Global Entry. There is a lot of discussion of the GE program and the GOES process in the Travel Safety/Security forum.

Perhaps posts in this thread could be limited to CO-specific discussion?

I had to add a passport recently and asked the Houston ICE guys how many travelers were registered and they said about 4,000 in Houston and 13,000 total in the US (early September.) I guess it has to do with IAH being an origianl site and, maybe, CO pushing the program.

There would seem to be a benefit for CO in reduced missed connections and the subsequent snowball effects on pax satisfaction, employee workload and costs.
Even if the number of GE enrollees grows substantially, the addition of a couple of additional kiosks is all that's neeed to handle it. There's even a reduced workload for the CBP folks which should allow them to do a better job with less hassle.
And, even if you only do 1 int'l trip a year, the cost, when added to the cost of your ticket, is miniscule for the time savings and ease of the process.
