5 upgrades same info on pda standby list.

Taking a look at upgrades on a flight today from IAH to SFO and I saw the following:

First Class Upgrade Information
Continental Flight 1763
Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) to
San Francisco, CA (SFO)
Fri., Aug 29, 2008 at 9:00 PM
Boeing 737-800

Capacity: 16
Booked: 7
Checked In: 5

This information will change frequently.
This page was last refreshed Fri., Aug 29, 2008 9:34 AM Houston, TX (IAH - Intercontinental) local time

Customers Upgraded into First Class:
APA, M. 3F
BIS, A. 2E
LAW, C. 2A
LAW, S. 2B
SNE, W. 3B
ZOC, J. 4A

Upgrade Standby List:
1. HIL, R.
2. HIL, R.
3. HIL, R.
4. HIL, R.
5. HIL, R.

Either this is a glitch, or a party of 5 on the same record has been put on the standby list - quite odd. Anyone seen this before?

I've done that late IAH-SFO flight before and it's been one of the easier flights on that route to get upgraded on, even before the current economic slowdown in the airline industry.

I think this is a reduction in demand for paid F on a flight that already had lower paid F demand.

How do you upgrade the whole family? I assume you've got to use miles.

We were on an IAH-EWR last week where the only upgrade from a family of four was the youngest son. From listening to them, I think he was a Plat and the others were Gold. Parents and sibling were .....ing about how it happens to them all of the time.

Five members of a family could all have status. Also, my brother and sister-in-law have the same first initial as do their 3 kids. that would produce the list as seen.

Totally looks like a wait-listed mileage upgrade to me.

This is the long weekend, meaning less paying business customers. My mom was on 378 yesterday IAH-SFO. 20 seats on a 739, 10 booked, 10 upgrades. As a Gold on a "O" ticket, she was third on the upgraded list.

Whole family upgrade

I had my whole family upgraded on United once when I was the only 1K.

Actually, it wasn't an upgrade it was a bump. They had seriously oversold or had an equipment problem and needed six passengers off.

I was on my own itinerary and my wife and 2 kids were on a different one because we were returning via different routes (mixing work and pleasure).

The day before the flight they called me to offer a bump to a later flight in first class. The agent told me they were looking for six and that my one seat would really help. I told her about the rest of the family and she rebooked us all into confirmed F seats.

My kids have been griping about not getting upgraded ever sense!

This could also be a non-rev seated in coach wishing to sit in F.

It is also the Friday of Labor Day weekend, so not a surprise to see a flight that empty as most travelling on business would be home already for a long weekend.

I had something similarly funny on the pda upgrade site for my flight from SFO to EWR yesterday...

My initials are STE, J - I checked in Weds. and printed my boarding pass with 14C. Later checked the pda site and saw that I was 3rd on upgrade list, and, also noticed that I had been upgraded into seat 1A. I was obviously shocked at the upgrade...called CO...turns out the guy in 1A just happened to have the same initials as me (and probably used miles or Y fare to upgrade) and I was still 3rd on the list. Oh well

I flew LAX/EWR on Monday and EWR/LAX yesterday. On both segments, seats ended up being available in BF: it was a B752. LAX/EWR booked 15/16, but five upgrades were available. I was on a Y, so I got a seat first. The return yesterday was interesting. I recalled it being booked 12/16; there ended up being seven upgrades. Things sure have changed since January!

Have been following mileage upgrade availability for the past two months for 9/13 or 9/14 (Sat or Sun). There has been NOTHING. Take a look at some of the FC seat maps and there is zero hope.
