When does status actually kick in?
I'm not sure of the best way to ask this question, so here's a shot...
I'm going to go over the hump tomorrow morning from silver to gold and I'm wondering when that change in status will actually take effect. I'm flying AUS-IAH-PHL on Wednesday 8/13 and I'd love to have a shot at that three day upgrade. However, if the flights don't post until Sunday or Monday, I'll miss out on the opportunity. So does the status take effect when the flights actually post to my online account OR when the flights are actually completed?
Thanks for the input...

As asked and answer many times here, once you complete the qualifying segment, give the Onepass service center a call and they might be able to expedite your upgrade to silver

Nothing will happen until the flights post, and for the OP it'll be inside the EUA window at that point. You can try calling OPSC to get an advance on the status since you're going to be earning it, but that has mixed successes.
Also, from the FAQ:
What happens if my Elite Status Changes?
If your Elite status changes after you make your reservation and you remove and re-add your account number, your reservation will reflect the correct status. But if you do not do that this is how your upgrade will be handled by the Elite Upgrade Automation (EUA) and at check-in as reported here:
- Non-Elite turns Elite. EUA will not recognize for an advance upgrade, and upgrade will not be offered at check-in. This is scheduled to be corrected with the 2008 Elite program
- Elite turns Non-Elite. EUA will not recognize for an advance upgrade, and upgrade will not be offered at check-in
- Elite changes to a different Elite tier. EUA will recognize most current Elite status for an advance upgrade, but will be added to the upgrade standby list at the former status upon check-in (also scheduled to be corrected with the 2008 Elite program)

Here's the current prose at Elite Qualification Requirements:
The WayBackMachine confirms that this was also the prose back in 2006, when it was an issue for me.
I successively argued at that time that this was a promise to provide the new status the day after I had flown the qualifying EQMs. To edit this prose would involve disclosing that the automatic process has a time lag.
You always receive the highest status for which you qualify. As you qualify for a higher level, your Elite status will be upgraded automatically and a new Elite card will be mailed to you. Benefits are effective the day after attaining a new Elite status.
