I was hoping to know this as well. I have always like the policy of one redeposit fee per reservation and not per ticket.

I hope they don’t start that. Can you imagine the rush to get overhead space? Especially with all the oversized carry-ons people drag on.

It hasn't been a problem on AA where fees for checked baggage were recently introduced.

Remember CO recently changed BF upgrade to day of flight - which is costing CO because of phantom bookings. The $100 for H is not too bad.

On the $150 change fee for non-Plats: Does this apply to both Saver and EasyPass rewards? Seems like EasyPass should be exempt as it is like a full fare ticket.

Agree with an earlier comment about CO holding back rewards. The best policy for rewards has been to book 330 days out on a partner airline, then when/if CO opens seats - you change to CO. The $150 is going to be too big of a hit to change. I think the impact will be OnePass members booking more seats on Partners when they release at 330 days and not on CO. So CO could have empty seats go out that otherwise might be using CO miles.

Great that there is little impact to Plats. Thanks CO.

Has this been a problem? Do you have some reference to it being a problem? Thanks.

Does CO upgrade copay requires miles?

The co-pay is for international travel into the BusinessFirst cabin.

For domestic flights (and some trips to neighboring countries, etc.), elite passengers don't need to co-pay or use miles to upgrade. The system is similar to EXP on AA: people are upgrade by elite status; within each of the three elite levels, the upgrade priority goes by fare basis.

I guess if you're not going to get the seat anyway, the fee doesn't matter a whole lot!! :o

I think these fee increases are insulting.
Its seems CO does not really care about its most valuable frequent travelers. I would understand if the fee's were for non elite members, but I have been a loyal CO customer for 17 years.
Its sad to think that I may have to jump ship to an airline that appericates its frequent travelers.

Where are you going to jump to? There are fees everywhere nowadays. Southwest is probably your best bet.

In fairness, if you look at how the fees are being implemented, you'll see that the truly most valuable flyers aren't paying fees. For example, full Y fares attract no fee.

It's too soon to tell the real impact of that with AA. The fee is not applicable to any tickets bought on or before June 14th; and the leisure travellers -- the segment most likely to fly with checked bags -- who have been flying since June 15th are most likely passengers who had bought their tickets before June 15th. Just wait until around Thanksgiving time and then we'll have a much clearer picture than we have today about the impact of this change.

To clarify, there are no co-pay fees on any non-BF upgrades for anyone, not just elites. For Series 0 (lower 48, Canada, Alaska) there are limits on eligible fare class for non-elites, but there are no co-pays at all at any level other than for BF itineraries.

Does anybody knows if the new redeposit fees apply for tickets issued on or after 08/17 ? I mean if you issued the ticket prior 8/17 goes with the old fees?

Wx4caster Jul 17, 2008 6:57 pm

What I find particularly insulting about the change fees is thinking about all the times I've booked months in advance only to have CO change their schedule - or perhaps a cancelled flight... and never has Continental said, "we're sorry sir, per our change fee policy, here is your check".. No, it only works one way. Now at $150 a pop - I think it's high time I get $$ every time the airline changes my schedule.

Wonderboynyc Jul 17, 2008 6:58 pm

I agree with many on here. I still believe that CO is the best managed US airline. I would fly them over any other US airline.

That said, I am glad I just burned some miles to NRT in BF.

Good luck CO. You have the best shot of getting through this with some measure of flyer loyalty of any US airlines.

The more I read this, the more convinced I am to toss the CO M/C, the Amex MR program, stop shopping on the portal, and move to a different reward card.

I think it is in very poor taste for Continental to present its new policies with "Platinum Elites" and "OnePass Members" as the sole two categories. What about Silver and Gold Elites, who used to be treated as loyal customers, rather than the current state of being lumped together with the traveling masses. It's sending a clear message that Continental neither needs nor appreciates our core business, which must be significant or they wouldn't have initially set-up these thresholds in the first place. Heck, even if the benefits aren't really much better than the no-status customers, at least list Silvers and Golds by name.

I think the plats should share a little bit of the pain.
