BF Upgrade Question

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I (silver) put my mom and I on the upgrade wait list for outbound to EZE. RT is just too expensive with fees and miles saddly. We are both leaving from different cities and therefore have different record locators. She has no status. I am told that if one of us clears and not the other, there is no way to refund the fees and miles for the one so we can both sit together in coach. Is this true? I am told we can't 'connect' our itineraries at this point.. most likely because we are leaving from different cities.

She has been cleared on the domestic portion but not from IAH-EZE. I have not been cleared for either. If she is not cleared for IAH-EZE the miles are refunded and fees are not charged, correct?

Fare class is not considered in waitlist priority but status is... Correct? If so, I am told she 'obtains' my status because my miles were used for her upgrade. Is this true/can be confirmed?

Any insight into upgrade chances for IAH-EZE for a thursday flight in november?

Thanks!

This is correct.

Excellent. Thanks! It's nice to know i understand the rules thanks to everyone on these boards. The agents are nice but they don't seem to understand all the aspects. Mine mentioned that fare class had a priority in the upgrade but I was pretty sure it didn't.

It really kinda sucks though that there is no way to 'link' our request for an upgrade to guarantee that one of us does not get a seat while the other does not. I would hate for that to be an issue and either lose the money/miles or not be able to sit together for that long a flight. Nothing I can do?

Let your mom have the upgrade when you get it and she doesn't.

For an overnight flight where you're hopefully going to be asleep the majority of the time, does it really matter who you are sitting next to? I'd err on the side of getting one comfy seat (for mom, of course) over sitting next to mom.

It was pointed out in another thread that I may have gotten the answer wrong on this one. I know that the miles keep the status of the account that they came from, so that part is correct. As to whether status matters in the wait list or not, I thought that it did, but I might be wrong there. Time added to the list also plays into it somehow, I think.

On an overnight I argue it could matter more who you sit next to, particularly if you don't like to make a habit out of sleeping with strangers.
