Colgan Air from EWR: Always late?
Why is Colgan Air's operation out of EWR having so much trouble with on-time performance?
Here is (I think) every flight from today, 4/21. I don't believe there were any weather or ATC issues today, as ExpressJet flights seemed to do fine all day.

My guess is that it's all tied into the congestion at EWR; the larger equipment probably gets priority over Colgan's props.

I've flown EWR-BDL and BDL-EWR many times - never been on-time (not by a long shot).
I think it's correct that they're deprioritized.

I made my inaugural Q400/Colgan flights this weekend--EWR-PIT and PIT-EWR--massively delayed on taxi both ways (the return even earned us a trip to the penalty box at PIT - didn't know this actually *happened*!).
I've done this trip on XE plenty of times in the past few years, and sure, there were occasional delays (and I flew the NYC-PIT-NYC route on US for many years before that, so I know better than to complain about on-time performance). But this time I just felt unlucky!

In the last quarterly conf call I believe they noted that there are some issues getting the Q400s up to performing the way they want them to be from a maintenance, but nothing regarding prioritization for slots. The model was brought into the fleet with the assumption and promise that it would reduce delays and other issues based on having more options to avoid the NYC ATC issues. That clearly isn't the case thus far.
Speaking of penalty box planes in random places, I saw a US plane stuck in the penalty box at JAX yesterday. Very strange to see that there.
